  1. Haha, he's following the correct guidlines mate. FA have a "long term player development" framework. Search it on Google, you'll find loads of info. He's doing the right thing. When they move to 11 a side, which they may play for 20 odd years, many of the lads won't be playing in the same position as they do in small sided games. It's impossible if you think about it. Some 11 a side teams only play 3 attack minded players. Wing backs and midfielders have to be able to beat players, pass, cross, take defensive positions, take set pieces, score, tackle. Learning how to do the fundamentals of this when young is much easier than when you're a teenager. My lad played in a decent grass roots team, 4 of the lads have been signed up to academies for the last 5 years so far. The coach rotated all the time, even the goalie, even in a cup final. We lost tournaments because of it. Disappointing at the time. Some dads would say "We would have won if he'd played X in, X position". So what, do you think anyone cares now? My lad can't even remember the name of the team he played, let alone the scores. The main centre forward for the grass roots team was awesome at scoring goals, 10 a match sometimes, he plays mainly full back now, he's small, fast. The left winger was awesome at beating players, powerful runner, he's a CB now, hated playing in defence when he was 8. The right winger plays defensive midfield. Some players develop physically and psychologicaly in ways that prevent them from playing in certain positions when they're older. You don't see many 5ft 5 centre backs, or keepers. What happens to the lad who's played in goals until he was 14, who ends up being small? What about the lad who played CF every match and training session in his 7 a side grass roots team who ends up being a late developer and when they get to 11 a side an early developer takes his CF place? When they get to 14, some lads can have the body, mind and technical skills of a 12yr old, others of a 16yr old. Players need to work on improving things they aren't good at, to get better. Rotation helps this. It changes when they get to u12, but before that they need to play in as many positions as possible. If you want to win matches, move to a team and coach that puts winning before player development, but don't be surprised if some players get preferential treatment over others. There's nothing worse than seeing a lad get 5 minutes game time most weeks because the coach wants to win. Much worse than losing for that lad. My lads grass roots team had a main rival, from Salford. They played to win, cherry picked players from other clubs, who were all at pro club development centres, mainly City and united. Their dads wanted to win. They didn't rotate. They usually beat us, by about 8 once. None of their players are at academies any more, they all dropped down to lower academies, then released. Which coach did the better job? Do you think those lads remember beating us by 8 or getting released from accrington Stanley at 10yrs old?

  2. Casino I can just see him taking on the presenter role on The Sky At Night: "And now on BBC2, it's The Sky at Night" Cue portentous music. Casino: "Hello and Welcome to the Sky at Neet. With me I have celebrity astronomer Brian May." Brian May: "Good evening. What are you planning to observe tonight? I have heard that Mizar and Alcor in the handle of Ursa Major's plough are favorably resolved even to the naked eye, on this crisp September night in Bury..." Casino: "I'm not going out there, it's too fucking dark." Cue portentous music.

  4. I’ve worked for 2 major global multinationals in my time and I’ve never known anyone to consider race when looking to recruit. It’s hard enough to find the best person for the job without limiting what you can take on. Do you believe any company worth it’s salt wouldn’t take on a Black person because of the colour of their skin? It’s few and far between if it’s an issue at all I currently work for an Indian company, the whole board is Indian, our commercial office in London is probably 50% BAME. Our factory and production up in the NE has barely any BAME but then again that’s representative of the demographic up there. The bit about white boardrooms, again I don’t believe this is a great issue. Partly for the same reason as above, lots of these companies have large offices outside of London, the BAME % is much lower than London so it needs to be looked at regionally rather than nationally Even nationally I think FTSE 100 companies have 7% BAME directors in the boardroom. The average age of a board member in the FTSE 100 is 58.5 years old, so they finished Uni and started working in the late 70’s / early 80’s (on average). At that time the % of BAME in this country was below 5%, so actually is the current 7% really an issue? Especially when you consider that BAME massively over index in NHS / healthcare, whilst good careers they don’t really lead to FTSE 100 boardrooms do they? The % of people who would identify as BAME has exploded in recent decades, half of them were born overseas (1991 census 5%, 2001 10% and 2011 15%). The average age of a BAME person is a full 10 years younger than a white person (31 vs 41). The fact that 80% of all black people in this country live in a few dozen square miles of London isn’t helping achieve national parity either. It’s going to take decades to get to a point where you can start looking for some sort of parity in statistics. It’s just too fresh and too small a data set at the moment

  6. I think that's probably the subjective bit you're unlikely to have experienced it I've not either I don't think it's as bad as the anarchists who've hijacked BLM make it out to be (or more to the point, their reaction is way OTT) but have posted a link previously in the thread where 80+ governing bodies admitted they haven't tackled it from grass roots to boardroom level whether that's not picking black kids for the hockey team or preferring to appoint whites into top level authority positions I don't know - but they admitted it, and say they will address it, they didn't have to admit, so I'll take their word for it- mainly because history tells us it's often been the case - in some countries it's exterme and obvious, in others less so - but unless you can prove it's bullshit, Id say let them deal with it if they choose to I don't go for unconcious bias and all that, as I reckon we're all (as in everyone of every race and colour) are probably guilty of that I agree it could be clearer, but the whole BLM thing has come about when the world is fucked and frustrated whist taking the knee has been going on for a while, so hopefully we'll get more clairty in due course and the anarchists will find something else to kick off about

  7. It seems it means different things to different people then, for you it’s about Neanderthal racist abuse, no issue with that For many others, including the guy writing the piece in the Guardian it’s much more, it’s about racism in the fabric of our society that means the dice are loaded in the favour of white people and are against Black People. For those that think this is the case, I’m calling bullshit Thats why I would prefer to see the kick it out campaign ahead of a BLM / Taking the knee in British football. It’s a much clearer message

  9. you keep repeating this, and fair enough, but, I reckon it's not just about that - as in, why players are taking the knee- they will have their reasons, and their reasons may differ - but effectively it's a worldwide stance to say enough is enough and let's strive for positive change and leave the neanderthal mindset behind personally, I reckon most PL players are taking the knee in support of their team mates, like Zaha, who endure racism via social media on a regular basis, they will have seen it, and seen how it affects him and other players if they want to stand up for him, then that's fine by me personally, I don't think it will make that much difference, but 30 seconds of bending the knee and saying "fuck you" to the racists, shouldn't really bother anyone, except those it's aimed at it'll probably only encourage them anyway, as shown by the reaction to that dance troupe on ITV until racism can be combatted, let those affected by it stand up to it

  10. I have read the rest of the thread and the bottom line is that remainers of all types will hang on to every last hope of the decision being reversed and are happy the see the EU attempt to bully the UK using NI as a premise. Conversely, leavers become more entrenched in the opinion that we should get out of this crooked club at the earliest opportunity and forge our own way in the world free of the machinations of faceless Brussels bureaucrats only really concerned about maintaining their own lavish lifestyles. Like most I suspect, will be glad to see this well behind us and see a UK making the most of its innate inventiveness and industriousness and forging ahead as we always have.

  13. I know they aren’t trying to take rights away from white people but it’s a slippery slope towards positive discrimination and I’m against that. I certainly don’t think Black people will have had it any harder than Chinese or Indian British people so why just focus on descrimination against Black people, bizarre really, especially as it’s been every sporting event for months. Then again Chinese and Indian British are outperforming white British in almost every measure so if the systems rigged in favour of white people then we are doing a shit job of rigging it. It’s quite clear that the BLM movement believe that racism is prevalent in the British system ‘systemic racism’. The biggest parts of the system are Welfare, Education, Healthcare and Justice. I believe that in 2020 all of these areas don’t discriminate based on race and thus the theory that white people are privileged ahead of black people for the key building blocks of society is bollocks I think far too much is read into blanket statistics without any thought behind it. A black person is more likely to be stopped and searched than a white person and that’s a sign of racism apparently. However a man is 10 times more likely to be stopped and searched than a women, does that mean the system is sexist? Under 30’s are ten times more likely to be pulled than over 30’s, is the system ageist? i’m all for a protest about equality but don’t just focus on one very small minority, broaden it up at least. This seems like it’s going on for far longer than any previous protest, massively disproportionate to me.

  15. If you infer that from my statement, then you are stupid. Moreover, given the particular situation in Ireland, and the fact that other agreements exist that aren't eu ones, then its just another example of you twisting comments and trying to make arguments that aren't there. Yet you like to claim to be talking truths. Ignorance for the sake of arguments.

  19. The point was the EU break international law when it suits, when a law could cause potential issues for supply of goods across the U.K. then it is well within the governments rights to negotiate a better deal, now if the EU become intrasigent then this bill might come into play, thats if it gets passed into law, of course it would be better if both parties could agree something that prevents the UK having to use the bill.

  20. Feeney wouldnt get in our side though because he's a winger, we dont start games with wingers. Last half hour we attempted 4-4-2 but Amoateng on the right wing was a mistake, we're crying out for some width, and I dont mean full backs making token attempts at getting forward.
