  1. I have seen my income half by 50% because clients are having to shut up shop and have reduced income I was / am fine with how it was the last few weeks, and saw that as the best/only way forward the issue isn't with those who are happy to stick to the rules, it's with those who don't want to why the fuck should they get to do what they want whilst spreading it around? it they hadn't been, there wouldn't be these new further restrictions hopefully they will change their tune when they can't breath properly

  4. I've just been into the EE shop in the centre of Bolton and I put my BWFC face mask on as I entered. The guy who greeted me said "Bolton Wanderers" with a slight edge, so I replied "well we are in the centre of Bolton". He then said "I'm a wigan fan". "Not for much longer" said I 😁

  8. Quite interesting to read that the Swedish public voluntarily took on distancing measures. Could that be representative of a major difference (culturally) between our nations? Perhaps a more pragmatic, but mutually respectful society as opposed to ours, which seems, in part at least, selfish, moaning, judgemental and dismissive amongst other descriptors.

  15. Listen chaps - there's all sorts of info out on the internet. It's hard to know what or who to believe. One thing I've learnt, is that when presented with conflicting info, to determine which one you want to beleive, you need to interrogate the sources as best you can, think of what the most likley ultimate aim of the source is (why are they telling you this - what benefit do they gain), what liability do they have (who are they responsible to, what are the consequences they will face if their info is incorrect), what expertise do they have, how revelevant is it, what is their track record, how did they get to where they are today, do they openly/have they welcomed challenge to their point of view (have they been questioned / crticised in an open forum) A lot of the stuff you are seeing regarding covid is coming from experienced political journalists, some who are contrarians who post anything that is contrary to popular (or government, or opposition) opinion. Covid is the topic of the day for them - when this is over they'll be onto brexit, trade deals, immigration, whatever is in the news. They use talking head expert X to back them up. They publish on their own website, or niche publciations, they aren't challenged openly, they have no responsibility, they want clicks, advertising revenue, to get on the channel 4 news, to sell a book etc etc. When it comes to science, clear data is the key. Presented in a format without opinion, with conflicts of interests disclosed beforehand so you are aware of bias, with resumes that explain what their aim is, how they operate, without a flowery back story, or political leaning of any sort. stuff like this -https://covid.joinzoe.com/faq compare that to this (sorry Jules) https://lockdownsceptics.org/ make your own minds up - I might be totally wrong. My main task, for several years, has been an independant consultant for businesses without technical expertise, who want to cut through the bullshit and spin that technology companies use when marketing technical products to them, before they buy. I find out what a customer needs and basically strip away bullshit and present the raw data to customers to help them decide. I was a biologist for a bit when I was younger.

  17. This. I had a read at the structure of sage a while back. It has its tentacles out into the scientific world to assimilate as much data as possible and come up with recommendations. If experts have something to offer, do it via these channels. Shooting off at tangents doesn't help one jot.

  19. Pardon my late response I’m busy in the day It’s not just late night venues Restaurants. 10pm chuck out they cannot accept tables after about 8pm. They are fucked. The hospitality industry is going to be decimated Why should the ones that have spent thousands on making their premises covid secure now lose out? Scare tactics to WFH...those local outlets in city centres that have literally just reopened and unfurloughed staff as footfall returned are bolloxed “6 months” as a statement - goodbye consumer confidence I’m not against the restrictions pre this week as such but I believe that we are now causing more harm. For me, this is about it creating MORE DEATHS, not about civil liberties & the economy so we all get rich. Ive extended family members that have died of (or more likely with) Covid, and I have a friend who took his own life because of it, so I am not looking at this from anything other than a human angle.

  22. I don't think it is the masks etc. i think its the issue of things like 6 of my friend group being furloughed and knowing they probably won't go back if it carried on much longer. Redunancies etc are going to causing larger issues long term. We have had to pull my friend to one side this week as he has changed massively and is struggling mentally. This is what people i know against a lock down are frustrated by. You can work from home which is great for you. i know loads who do not have this option. do we just forget about them because people like yourself are ok working from home? Nobody is saying people being in ICU isn't terrible (the fact twiggy is in ICU will clearly bring it closer to home for most).

  24. Ok to put it another way. What are the restrictions that are currently in place that are really causing people angst ? I hate wearing a mask, but for the sake for an hour shopping it is bearable. I am pissed that can not go on holiday. Pubs shutting early does not bother me. Working from home not an issue. Not seeing family and mates is the biggest alongside no football. But none of that is as bad as seeing pictures of Twiggy in ICU. With infections going through the roof what alternative is there to more restrictions ? Unless the data is wrong then we are fucked for other reasons. I know there are experts with different views but the few I have looked at (on Twitter so maybe not experts !!) were also saying it had gone away and we should crack on two weeks ago. I get people have different views I disagree with a lot the clowns have done recently. But if we accept infections are rising doing nothing is surely not an option. Blaming false positives is one thing I have seen. Why were we not getting those 2 weeks ago ? It is a fucking mess the spirit of all in together there was earlier in the year is well and truly fucked.

  28. It needs making simpler, for example you can’t pay to view via the app, a simple link from the app to pay and view would suffice, instead you’ve got to go to the ifollow web site, register then login, pay and then go back to the app to view.

  29. There are eminent experts for and against further restrictions, so to say that backing them is just following the accepted science is simply not true and it should be open for debate... https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/coronavirus-too-much-or-not-enough-experts-fight-it-out-online-mf3p336vs

  30. Whether I catch it or not is irrelevant to me - the over-riding factor for me is not wanting to catch it and pass it on to others, which could ultimately result in someone suffering, or much worse. For that reason, I'm happy to take whatever precautions the science suggests may reduce that risk. Although I am in a very fortunate position where I can easily work from home most of the time, and was never furloughed, so I understand why a lot of people think differently. It's an awful situation.

Followed the rules to the letter. If everyone followed the rules this virus would be a much smaller issue now than it is. it’s really that simple. But folk can blame anyone but themselves.

  42. Further up the thread a link to their poor version of Wanderersways shows the joy they felt at our anticipated demise. When it didn’t happen they started accusations of cheating and leaving creditors high and dry. They were gutted. For those reasons and plenty others, fuck the fans and fuck their club.
