  1. Correct. Let's not forget how long it took Pompey, Sheff Weds etc to get out of this division. We've suffered a perfect storm as to why we probably won't go up in the autos this season. A horrific set of injuries at crucial times mixed with some in game nievety from the manager, a collection of absolute howlers and things just simply not going for us. It's football, sometimes things just don't happen.

  2. It’s important in this debate to understand the injury point isn’t somebody off twitter saying a one liner as that’s the only reason we didn’t go up automatically . But you clearly can’t dismiss it as one of the reasons when it has affected us so badly. The other one I missed out in earlier discussions is George Johnston, massive miss this season. Those stats at first glance leave you bewildered as to why we are not in the top two; goals scored, ratio of shots to goals etc etc. But they are skewed as others have pointed out by some convincing home wins. So IMO there are definite improvements to be made in areas such as; specific game preparation, in-game management from players and manager and I would like to see IE be a little more flexible with tactics/formation/recruitment and less process driven at times. But I’ve said on numerous occasions, he’s a young, passionate, educated and dedicated manager who is improving as the team/squad is year on year I’m with @Horwich you can’t deny the improvement. Might not feel like it at the moment this year, but goals, wins, points and position will all improve. And as the season comes to a conclusion we are still in with a very good chance of going up, much better prospects than previous seasons.

  3. I'm certainly not in the panic camp like what seems like 90% of our fanbase. Is what it is. If we aren't ready we aren't ready. It's big fuck off hysterical hound out and everything going sour I can't be arsed with.

  4. Every team outside the prem should boycott it next season. If the FA have so little regard for lower league clubs so as not to even consult them, let them see how their precious competition fairs without them.

  5. Today, I stand with Tranmere. (But only today!) Hopefully other non-Premier League clubs (and maybe some Prem clubs as well) will also call the FA out on this.

  6. Baxter, Santos, Sheehan, Victor All these were starters in the team that got hammered 4-0 at home by Wigan Bolton haven't failed to win automatic promotion due to injuries,They have failed because the strongest team wasn't good enough and there are better managers in the 3rd Division

  8. Hearing that it wasn’t discussed with the FA Cup Committee who actually run the competition. Don’t know if that’s definitely true or just a rumour

  11. I’m not sure IE gets along with strong characters - hence the reason we’re bereft of hardmen & mentally strong players.

  12. plenty of clubs are releasing statements opposing the decision to scrap replays, hope we do the same. Madness that a cup competition involving 700+ teams has been changed to accommodate just the top 20 teams. i wish that the European super league never got scrapped in the first place and the top 6 clubs just fucked off, we'd be better off without them at this point.

  14. It’s worrying but people just go for the injury excuse a win would’ve give us a real good chance and put the pressure on Derby but only Paris decided to show up so many poor individual performances and IE must carry the can, if you can’t get the team fired up for Shrewsbury especially after such a good performance against Portsmouth then it’s a real concern but yes it’s done now

  15. I don't buy the injuries excuses at all. That team was plenty good enough to beat Shrewsbury on Tuesday. We're too inconsistent irrespective of which players play.

  18. The old saying - defences win titles. Never been more accurate. Yes, the clip on here shows some sitters we've missed. I'd hate to see a montage of very soft, sloppy goals we've conceeded

  21. Because it means we'd still have a chance of going up automatically Which is better than not having a chance of going up automatically

  22. During the Luton cup game (attendance 11k ish) I was explaining to my grandson that cup games back in the day attracted larger crowds than league games as the FA cup was considered to be the ultimate prize. The rot set in about the same time as the Premiership started & the likes of bluenose playing reserve sides (remember his 2nd eleven losing to York City at Old Trafford) of course that became the norm & very soon they were all at it , us included . Fast forward thirty years & it’s really gone to the dogs , with attendances for the early rounds barely registering above 6k . Consigned to the past the excitement, unpredictability, spontaneity & downwright enjoyment of the competition reduced to a almost obligatory attendance from diehard fans.

  23. Where we are now, this is the best we’re going to get, so I’d be delighted with that scenario.

  24. But we're not 3rd because of goals scored it's because of goals conceded. Look at the goals against column compared to Portsmouth and Derby. Take just the Wigan and Derby games - if you can't win those then don't lose them and they were 2 really soft goals to concede. There has been so many examples this season with Shrewsbury another.
