When you look at it like this, I realise that for the most past, I’m only desperate for promotion so we keep hold of players (including potentially Maghoma), and for the additional funds that playing in the Championship brings. While the standard down here is bad and you get too many teams spoiling games, it’s great being one of the bigger boys. Stockport, Mansfield and Wrexham all promoted. I’d do all of them aways. Few more that still need ticking off too. 15.5k season ticket holders tells you the fanbase is enjoying Evatt’s tenure. And I still hope we keep hold of him as long as possible.

Seems like the final average attendance for this season was 21080. Second best in the league behind Derby. From memory it was just shy of 19,000 last season. It's bloody impressive stuff. For most of my BWFC supporting life I'd never have dreamt we'd average that in a third tier season.

No coach at any level coaches to leave players unmarked on the edge of the penalty areas from corners. It’s lack of communication from the playing group and nothing to do with Evatt or coaches. Correct. Let's not forget how long it took Pompey, Sheff Weds etc to get out of this division. We've suffered a perfect storm as to why we probably won't go up in the autos this season. A horrific set of injuries at crucial times mixed with some in game nievety from the manager, a collection of absolute howlers and things just simply not going for us. It's football, sometimes things just don't happen.

Every team outside the prem should boycott it next season. If the FA have so little regard for lower league clubs so as not to even consult them, let them see how their precious competition fairs without them.

It’s important in this debate to understand the injury point isn’t somebody off twitter saying a one liner as that’s the only reason we didn’t go up automatically . But you clearly can’t dismiss it as one of the reasons when it has affected us so badly. The other one I missed out in earlier discussions is George Johnston, massive miss this season. Those stats at first glance leave you bewildered as to why we are not in the top two; goals scored, ratio of shots to goals etc etc. But they are skewed as others have pointed out by some convincing home wins. So IMO there are definite improvements to be made in areas such as; specific game preparation, in-game management from players and manager and I would like to see IE be a little more flexible with tactics/formation/recruitment and less process driven at times. But I’ve said on numerous occasions, he’s a young, passionate, educated and dedicated manager who is improving as the team/squad is year on year I’m with @Horwich you can’t deny the improvement. Might not feel like it at the moment this year, but goals, wins, points and position will all improve. And as the season comes to a conclusion we are still in with a very good chance of going up, much better prospects than previous seasons.

The above quote is not the first comment to say this, but the absence of Santos was nowhere near the biggest of our problems tonight. The first Shrewsbury goal was almost a carbon copy of the Portsmouth goal on Saturday … when Santos played. The second goal came from a focus on defending our penalty area with all 11 players and ignoring everything outside the box … which is what we do for every corner, with or without Santos. He’d have been involved in the push and shove around the six yard box that all three defenders were tied up with. Nothing would have changed. By far the biggest problem, on the pitch, was the midfield setup and, specifically, Thomason’s woeful attempt to play the Sheehan role. Morley has been unfairly criticised for not being up to Sheehan’s standard, when he’s deputising. In my opinion, Morley in the role, is light years ahead of what we saw from Thomason, tonight. However, the overall biggest problem was off the pitch: Ian Evatt. The midfield problem (I don’t want to call it the Thomason problem; it was a tactical mistake) was evident within the first quarter of a hour. I was willing it to be changed by half an hour, and it had to be changed at half time. But it never changed. Was Morley injured, as well? If so, the formation could have been changed. But Evatt did nothing. The second major issue was the final substitutions. I far prefer Ogbeta to Williams, but I’m going to pass over Williams’ minimal contribution when he came on. This was always a 40-60 call, to try something different. The most unbelievable decision was to replace Dempsey with Nlundulu. First of all, Dempsey was almost the last player I thought should have been replaced. Admittedly, he didn’t have a great first half; Jerome, aside, who did? But in the second half, we saw a lot of the old Dempsey and, for me, he was behind or involved in most of our creative stuff. However, Nlundulu was never going to offer anything. In his loan last season, he offered nothing, and I was amazed (and annoyed) when we then paid significant money for him. in the first half of the season he showed nothing to change my (very low) opinion, before injuring himself in a bizarre and inept attempt to score a penalty. Why would be any different after his absence? He wasn’t, though all the front line weren’t helped by the loss of Dempsey from the midfield. ian Evatt: tonight and previous poor performances are on you.

Happy with the job Evatt has done and wouldn’t mind him for another year if we fail to go up. Stability is an underrated commodity in football. He’s a good manager, not yet shown himself to be excellent though. But do you want to risk starting from scratch with a new man? I feel he Evatt needs this promotion for the fan base’s support in general. He’s had 3 seasons to build a team capable of League 1 promotion and too often we’ve been lacking in important games and moments. Some bad luck yes - but when it’s happening consistently it is difficult to keep taking it. The Wigan defeats, the Blackpool loss, the Derby loss. Dont think last season was our “time” to go up. Seemed written in the stars for Sheffield Weds, but this year we’ve had an easier league and Evatt has built this team with substantial funding and backing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he walked before he was pushed should we fail to go up.

We've spent nearly a million to go from 2nd to probably 4th. But still, we play nice football. IE has done a great job of lowering a lot of people's expectations

Foden, Palmer and Bellingham ALL occupy the middle...and even when Palmer and Foden have played "right" they drift in to become central and all their productivity comes centrally. Bellingham probably the bext 10 on the planet right now, so we just cant play all 3. Maybe 2...but than means no Saka, who is probabnly the only "winger" type we have that will run at the full back out wide.....maybe Antony Gordon too now...thats why I think he still looks at Rashford. Its too easy to stick the names together, but all this attacking threat is pointless if the midfield can't support it....and thats where Philips was so bloody good with Rice at the euros...but we don't have anyone to do that roll now in the big games....and its exactly why Henderson / Philips still get picked...maybe its Manoo's time now.
