Ian Evatt is backing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson at Bolton Wanderers

    https://archive.md/onBcN

“Jon is very much in our thoughts,” he told the Bolton News. “He is a very important player for us.
“The season is long, it is only October, it runs to May, and I believe he is going to play a huge part for us this season.

“I haven’t lost any faith or belief in Jon, there is nothing else, there is no agenda, it is just about getting him fit, ready and firing, then when he gets his opportunity to get into the team he needs to make sure he stays in it.”

Sure we heard all that about Declan John. Not convinced.

Oh I don’t know, we didn’t half struggle at times on Tuesday when Stevenage were quick to close down the back three.

Granted, I get that and they did. But I think my point still stands, if a team wants to encourage you up the pitch, why oblige them?

I think it was Exeter last year, they tried it and we battered then, many teams have sat in and we struggle.

He picks the ball up in "difficult positions" because that's what Evatt's game plan involves.

Motd did a piece on Brighton the other week, with them employing precisely the same tactics. They sucked in opposition midfielders then played a longer pass to an overlapping player to get in behind.

They're obviously better at it than we are, and he may not be the best at it, but someone has to show for that initial pass out of defence- whether it be Sheehan, Thomason or anyone else.

What I don't understand is why teams try and press us high, that is what we want and encouraging them to do it. So why do some teams accommodate us?

While we may fuck it up occasionally, we look devoid of ideas when teams just go and get their shape, sit-in, minimise all the space in their half, and wait for us to stop pissing about with it at the back.

It’s unfathomable decisions to the normal sports loving public, that aren’t rugby nerds, that turn people off this game - bobbins

Totally agree, I try and watch it and just fucks me off. Just a whistle and a ref with his hand up!

    Utter pish

He shouldn't.  He's penalised for using his hands outside the area, not for saving outside the area.

I think he would though as Red is for denying goalscoring opportunity, which wouldn't have been the case if we'd subsequently scored.

  6. What has he done that's any different tho having an Only Fans account??

Slightly flippant from me not having been that close to it do happy to be corrected, but if the Police are not interested why should your employer??

And they are a lot nearer where we want to be.

What we played last night (and in more than a handful of games since January) was shite football and every bit as bad to watch as the worse Megson days or whatever. You can't just brand yourself 'the good footballing team' and use that as a crutch when you get beat.

Building from the back last night amounted to Rico standing still with the ball at his feet and knocking it to Toal. Plan B when that didn't work was lumping it down the line and losing it. Plan C was throwing every striker on in no particular formation... and still passing it around the back with no midfield.

I'm not advocating ripping it up or Evatt abandoning how he wants to play, but we do need get our heads out of own arses about how noble we are for playing the way we do.

Bravo sir, bravo. Nail on head 👏

I just think it's too basic to say if we had an enforcer we would of beat them etc etc.

We didn't do what we are good at well enough over two legs. We play like we play. We sign players to fit the way we play. Hopefully in the summer we will some holes and improve in the base we built this season .

I agree about the enforcer bit.

However In terms of the 'way we play' I'd prefer a manager who can adapt the to the players he has got at his disposal. (Not saying I want rid of Evatt before the pile on btw!)

Fine if this evolves over time, but Evatt's dogmatic approach to how we have to play has cost us a lot of points this season and the last two games are there for everyone to see.

To be fair he has tightened up our defence this year from last, so let's hope he knows what needs to be done in midfield and up front as we need to start consistently scoring more than 1 goal a game if we want to go straight up.

Overall we have had a good season need to have a re-think on the squad.
Players out of contract doubt I would resign any of them , Bod is made of glass and Lee his legs have gone the others doubt they would be missed.
Dan can go back to Southampton and we could do with selling Vic he’s bobbins.
We need a LWB a RWB 2 tough midfielders and 2 strikers and a goal keeper but down to IE now he’s the manager .

We need different fuckin tactics too

  10. Commentators spot on, why have possession if you do nowt.

Evatt sets us up in a way that is too hard to win games consistently, we don't score/create enough.

A second half of a play off match that you're losing and not one shot on target, crap.

  11. This is poor,

Pass pass pass pass around the back, aimless long ball the bypasses nlundulu and gets mopped up by there defence,  two passes later they have a shot or are in our box.

    It is rank

Agreed, all the same old shit, being bullied and can't play through midfield.

Leave two quick lads on the halfway line, they'll have to leave three back, which eases box congestion.

I think it is the congestion that the defending team want?? Defending headers just need to keep it away from goal, attacking needs be on target etc.

Therefore a crowded penalty box is more beneficial to the defending team, less space and opportunity for attackers to lose markers etc.

No idea if I'm right but it's the only conclusion I could come up with that fits why they all do it.

    Good.

Did he seem confident in the physical battle, and no obvious shying away from a challenge?

Far from it, well up for it👍 Also think he had a go at smashing Cosgrove late on at Wembley
