Yeah the pitch isn’t helping but it looked a bit better than it did a few weeks ago. Hopefully it can keep improving for the run in as we get some better weather.

I think we are evolving though… we had Dapo and Charles up front for a while … both quite small. When Bod was fit for a few games we went a little more direct and I think we have recruited Adeboyejo and Jerome for exactly that. We haven’t seen enough from them yet as they’ve only just signed but I think we will see that evolution going forward. Evatt is constantly striving for those marginal gains and I think he’s gone from being a football purist to someone who is more adaptable as he evolves as a manager. We still have an identity but we are definitely better defensively this season, we are looking a bit more dangerous on set pieces and we even used a long throw (he said in interviews how much he hated long throws in league 2).

Generally I agree, we are definitely moving forward. Is just these kinda games we struggle.

Just frustrating the amount of times the ball gets recycled down each side and back again in these matches without us getting anywhere near goal, we have loads of opportunities to provide a conventional cross but always seem to stop and play it back?? Add that to a reluctance to shoot, but well done Dempsey!!

You're right though, Evatt has realised somethings wrong and hopefully the new signings will improve matters.

The pitch isn’t helping our style either, IE mentioned the players having to take an extra touch yesterday

Which is true, but we had same issues against these types of teams regardless of the pitch to be fair.

Just concerns me we don't really seem to be evolving, there is a theme to these kinda games. It would great to be able to win these matches in a way more commensurate with our league positions occasionally.

Then you watch the rest of the goals in the division and the defences seem shite, mistakes all over. Yet play us, and they all play like team full of Baresi's, quite annoying.

  3. That fucking 3, he indicated to the bench he was injured then came back on to the pitch and ref watched him do it, before collapsing.

Why can't ref just say pop over and politely say, 'you walked back on, so walk back off if you're fucked. 'Play on!'

Surely the rules are already there??

I still think our destiny is an away second leg play-off semi against one of Plymouth, Sheff Weds, Derby or Ipswich and I have my doubts over whether we could get past that, but it's going to be bloody exciting getting up to that point and having a go at it.

This is it for me, a few weeks ago I dreaded the thought of the play-offs as felt collectively we were weak and would struggle with potentially 3 big high pressure games.

Thankfully so did IE and seems to have addressed it. So is a tall ask to go up automatically but if we don't, I just want us to be resilient, nasty and hard to beat for the rest of the season.

If so, I will go into the play-offs in a far better frame of mind than I would have been otherwise!!

  5. Surely with the amount of atack minded players in the squad now, why do any of our defenders have to take risks with the ball?

The risk, IMO, in the way Evatt wants us to play is by getting our defenders up to the opposition box, and that is where Santos is gold in providing cover 1 v 1 against the break.

However with the team we have I'm not sure he needs to bother as much with the risky glory ball tbh. Hence why was easier for Aimson to slot in so well recently than the last time he had a run in the team.

  6. Great performance that bar one or two issues, Goal & Santos header!

Can really see what Evatt is trying to achieve with that performance.

Almost better to have a setback and come back from it in the game, definitely getting more resilient. Signings look good, just hope no serious injuries today.

  7. I think Aimson has to take a lot of credit, whilst pretty unspectacular himself, he just does the job and reads the game well.

However, he seems to have organised the back three/five, not only in defending well, but in giving Johnson and Toal the confidence to get up to the opposition box too, like Evatt wants.

Johnson did it for a period last season but seemed to have regressed?, but since Aimson has come in the middle they all seem to know what they're doing. It wasn't always the case with Santos, he is not an organiser for me, I just hope Aimson isn't bombed out after his first mistake/poor game for the skipper, think he has earned a decent run.

Said it before, Lee apart, the players who came up from L2 with us now look like our weaker players.

Shows how much progress has been made in 18 months

I agree, definitely highlights our progression.

Bit of a tale about Today which I think is well worth relaying..

my old man’s bday on NYD which was a milestone birthday for him so decided to take him in to the LoV today. A couple of weeks ago off the cuff I decided to email Sharon (or what I assumed was her email address) explaining he was a lifelong ST holder etc etc and anything she could do / any time spent with him would make his day. A couple of weeks went by with nothing. Eventually this week received an email from someone else at the club stating Sharon had received and read the email and to arrange a meet with her this afternoon.

so took the old man down to reception at 2:30 to meet the girl who emailed me as requested. Took us up to the chairman’s suite and we were stood outside for a while him still unsure as to what the hell was going on. Eventually Sharon comes out and apologises as she “couldn’t get away from sir Alex” and welcomed us both as though she’d known us for years. Bit of a chat ensued and he’s bowled over that she’s made the effort. He then apologises and says we have to make our way back round to the LoV to see the KO. Instantly she says No! “ I’ll find you seats in the exec box with me” shouts her laccy over and pretty much says they’re friends of mine, find them some seats to watch the match in the box. At HT come in to the chairman’s suite and we will have a brew.

So ended up spending the whole game in her (distant) company, made us feel so welcome. Had more than enough time for us.

it may have meant nothing to her in the grand scheme of things but will last my old man a lifetime. The woman is absolute class from top to bottom and I can’t imagine our club in better, more thoughtful or considerate hands.

    Tremendous 👍

  10. I don't really think this will happen but would be impressed if Evatt picked John at LWB.

All the stuff in the press just to get a reaction in this match until Williams up to speed.

    Fanciful I know!

I hope Williams starts of all the realistic options.

A sub. In a game that was against a top side that we still should have won. He didn't miss chances.

Lincoln was a poor first half, but they were all poor.

Dapo was abysmal against Derby, but very little comment.

Dempsey has become a player that folk pick on for criticism beyond what is reasonable. Whereas others can do little wrong.

I don't disagree, that's why I was praising him and stating he should be in the starting XI??🤔🤔

He hasn't played much recently because of injury.

He played against Derby asa  sub and Lincoln and was getting slated by lots on here??

Not really sure what point you're trying to make but just saying I think he offers something none of the others do.

  13. Defo most balanced midfield three for me, Dempsey has been poor recently but is different to anyone else we have particular, loves a scrap.

    Great 3rd team goal!

I think our most likely way of finding one is a youngster from a Premier League club on loan.

Do we, I think it is more a Daryl Murphy or Andy Walker type tbh, been there, done it and on the wind down. We would be nearer the top two if Murphy had been playing instead of Charles for sure.

However Evatt wouldn't have played him as no doubt he wouldn't press enough??

We simply need someone to get us out of this division then worry about the championship then. Look at Sunderland...

  15. Some of them ran faster off at half-time than they did in the match.

Can slag the defenders off all you want, but this is 3rd division football, is our midfield that is utter gash.

What are our tactics against these kind of teams?? this is like deja vu seen it so many times.

Can’t believe we are discussing it , talking about fitness etc given the state of the energy sapping pitches in those days plus two games a week .

Walker & McGinley would walk into our current team not to mention Blake who along with SJM scored thirty goals in our title winning season in the Championship as well !

I agree, for me the Charles comparison is with David Reeves not McGinlay or Walker 🤣

Or just get better at implementing the system we train all week for?

Is there any sign of this though because for me we are poorer now that we were three months ago.

Evatt said in November they had time on the grass to work on things . What were these things exactly as still can't take corners, still concede early goals, only attacking intent is out wing backs and still not scoring goals. The football on offer is not the high intensity exciting football he espouses IMO, and has been like this for a long time now.

He has tried every permutation of players, yet only one match tried a different shape, then reverted to type.

So for me he needs to find a formation to suit our assets, not modify our assets to fit his, at times pig headed, ideals.

Sick of hearing about we likely to give some on a shoeing one day, or play this scintillating football but 'we not quite there yet'; when will this be Ian? as we are flat lining at best with our progression on the pitch for me regardless of league position currently.

Fingers crossed he has his usual Jan turnaround.

I reckon it was purely and simply because John is on his way out. It could have happened in August, it probably will in January.

I think you're right, but why not play him if he the better option until that time?

I've seen nothing in Iredale that says he is a much better option than DJ, and Beck certainly isn't on last night's showing.

  19. 2 hours ago, Tonge moor green jacket said:

Possible I suppose- I'm not convinced, but if true then a clear the air chat is required.

From what I've heard the John situation hasn't helped, but the player should be bigger than that if true.

What is the John situation? More than just a strop at being dropped?

Must be something as no way Iredale is that much in front of John as a wingback, if at all, for the minutes he has had.
