I've tried very hard recently not to join in the doom and gloom, but the longer we go without strengthening the squad, the more difficult our season is going to be.
The team photo had 15 outfield players on it: Pedersen, Faye, Davies, Stelios and Gardner are all carrying injuries: Fortune is injury-prone. The squad is quite thin and any player brought in now will struggle to be ready for the first game of the season. Our first game is a tough one too. If we harbour real hopes of European qualification, Spurs will be one of our main rivals for a UEFA spot. An opening day defeat will not help our cause, and I really don't see us winning the game.
I fully understand the club refusing to be held to ransom and also refusing to panic buy, but something has to give soon. I was very disappointed in the way we finished last season, yet the squad is considerably weaker now.
It is now time for either money to be spent or "big-time" players like Diouf, Stelios and Nolan to come to the fore.
