Maybe we ought to start a campaign to reinstate Saint Edmund as Patron Saint of England.

It would probably mean reinstating his  white dragon flag as the English flag too though.

imagine the damage Nike could do with that …

So basically loads of deluded cunts pretending there's more to "being English" than just being born in England. What "culture" do these people think is being 'taken away' from them?

No idea mate , but I’m not saying it is, I’m saying why St George’s day may be playing” catch  up “ with other national festivals as people perceive it more these days than they used to do with a few examples of why I THINK that .
it’s a rambling musing, not a statement of fact, just my thoughts

  3. People get too obsessed with the “ he’s not English he’s Turkish “ or whatever.
that’s not the point, he’s a saint , the Patron saint of England ,it’s a religious day so the day is celebrated in England , and should be .
Jesus wasnt English  but there’s loads worship him in England

religious festivals don’t hold the same party style celebrations in Protestant cultures generally historically due to idolatry, so would be more refined service rather than marching around with statues etc and wild parties , probably why St George’s day traditionally a bit low key along with the fact England and the English nationality had never really been under threat or the under dog so the need to demonstrate who they are was never felt required as it was with other nations , Ireland and st Patrick’s day is a good example of the difference there being the exact opposite.
( though the pubs used to be closed on st Patrick’s day and it was the diaspora gathering started the drinking reputation for the day)
maybe people feel their culture is being taken away more these days, whether that be immigrants, “ wokeism” or whatever and want to demonstrate they are still English

maybe people want to show there still an England even if the England they are celebrating never really existed anyway , more one they want to exist , who knows

National days are usually independence days too, which England has never had nor needed to celebrate.

end of the day, people being patriotic, having a few beers and celebrating what they perceive as good about England , no matter what they’re dressed in is no harm , as with everything it’s the line between being proud of where you are from and hating anyone not from where you are from that get blurred with some .

I'm working opposite Australia House today in Aldwych and not one person has yet thrown a sanger on the barbie or gone inside wearing a corked hat.

    Cultural traitors to a man.

In the Aldwych theatre by any chance?

Israel have never been in the business of not retaliating

I seem to remember in the 1st Gulf war , Sadam fired a scud into Isreal that caused a bit of damage and Isreal got world wide praise for their restraint, as retaliating would have escalated that war.
I’m sure that happened, though it was early 90s so I was probably pissed while the news was on so could be wrong

  6. Can only assume that had something wrong , something stuck , wouldn’t lift a container that high in any circumstance, unless he genuinely didn’t know what he was doing , in which case him and his company are fucked

Yet supposedly snow in certain, high areas (presumably north of the wall).

    Truly bonkers.

I drove to Huddersfield last week and it was snowing a blizzard like the depths of winter over the tops , dark and bad visibility, tracks in the lanes the lot.
came back an hour later and no sign of it ever snowing, no trace in the fields or anything, just bright evening sunshine and roads just a bit wet .

It’s Amazing how many people comment on what Isarael shouldn’t be doing.

Aye, it’s almost as if it’s a discussion forum where people can put alternative points of view across about their concerns about the number of innocent kids being killed and their desire to reduce that aspect ,rather than just accepting Israel has carte Blanche to do what they like , it’s almost as if they have a concern about innocent kids, without knowing the full solution , the soft brainwashed screeching idiots.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Lie down and take it.

Wonder how many Gaza screechers are also complaining about insufficient spending on our own armed services.

Not what I said or was even inferring and is typical of the responses on here .

    “Gaza screechers “ really?

that alone shows where this thread is in terms of rational thinking.

    I’ll leave you to it

“Dont bomb if you know innocents are there”

So what do Israel, or any country for that matter, do if they’re be continually bombed from say a school or mosque.

    No idea.

  13. 9 minutes ago, royal white said:

So allow a continuous bombardment of rockets and bombs?

As sad as it is I doubt any country would do that.

Don’t think I said that to be honest .

Don’t have a “ side” , think Hamas are cunts who need obliteration, however, think if it could be done without killing innocent kids,( as far as reasonably possible as I accept it happens ) that would be more inline with acceptable protocols of civilised nations .

Not verified, and even if true, comparing one conflict with another in such a way is ridiculous- they have very different circumstances/infrastructure/ and the use of human shields isn't consistent.

A worker simply looking for some stat or other to make a point, without consideration of the wider picture? A worker from the UN - already seen that some were alleged to have taken part in the terrorist attack itself.

And that no doubt doesn't include conflicts where charitable efforts and media coverage is almost non existent.

Possibly but the human shield aspect could be an argument why Israel have to tread lightly?

they  know they’re using human shields, so maybe don’t bomb them as you know you’ll kill innocents ?

there’ll be those that disagree with that and say it’s Hamas fault for using human shields, my opinion is don’t bomb if you know innocents are there.

it wasn’t some Hamas mouthpiece stating it either , it was a UN person, who had figures from other conflicts covered by media or not . I have no idea as I said, neither do you or anyone but if it’s true it’s pretty bad stat, think everyone would agree on that surely?

  15. 6 hours ago, royal white said:

No, I’m telling you that kids/innocents will always get killed in wars.

They will, but I heard a stat, that more children have been killed in Gaza in this 5 months that in the whole worldwide conflicts over the last 4 years .

it was from an un aid worker, no idea how to verify it but if that’s anything near true it shows that the response has been disproportionate to put it mildly and isn’t the “ normal “ collateral damage that obviously does occur in these scenarios.

Saw a good chunk of it.

The dehumanising effect of war laid bare.

Also suggets the west needs to up its game in terms of munitions, as Ukraine is losing plenty of men.

Russia clearly can cope with personnel losses, even at a greater rate.

Aye, those lads making their own explosives out of soap and petrol, strapping them onto drones and still being successful in eliminating foxholes , only for a whole new batch of Russians shipped in showed that perfectly in one 5 min section .

the whole dehumanising effect of trampling  over “ dead fucking Russians” everywhere as they put it must be awful but also saw the human side when they found one of theirs , could see the effect on them .
