  1. Saying as Tony Cee and the like only come on when we lose, can I take up the mantle in a way. I thought we were lucky to be 2-1 up and didn't fancy us at that stage. Boro's movement was better than ours and they looked dangerous everytime they went forward. Elmander showed no sign he is ever going to score goals regularly for us and is shaping up to be the biggest white elephant we have ever bought. Please don't tell me about his workrate or his neat touch, he is an ?8 million striker, bought to score goals and I can't see it happening. Again I get the feeling we won despite Megson rather than because of him. At 2-1 it was looking dodgy, no suggestion of any input from our manager and then we get a flukey third goal to seal it.

Hopefully during the close season, Megson will be able to bring in the players he wants. But what will he do once he has them? For me we still do not have a system, we have no width and our passing game can't get going with players out of position.

I know I'm moaning after a very good win but there are still concerns for me with this team/manager. On the plus side the fourth goal was a cracker and showed what we are capable of. Gardner was good today, so was JLloyd. Thought Muamba and McCann tackled very well, less so distribution and shooting. In fact individually (apart from Elmander) I don't think anyone played badly but as a team there is still a lot of work to do. At least we will still be in the Premiership to do it so could be a lot worse. :drinks:

  2. Over the last 12 months i have developed a burning dislike for Newcastle. They change from one new massiah to another and one each occasion they spew out tripe bout what a big club they are and how uniue their fans are. The Keegn fiasco was a hilarious circus act!

The mis-management as a business takes my breath away. They are not special. They are no more pasionate than any other fans. They are fortunately geographically located so that they have a relatively large catchment area.

They apparntly don't have a contingency plan re players wages and contracts if they were rlagated. So arrogant are they

I really, really hope they get relagated. That for me would make my summer. I know it's quite sad to gain pleasure from anothers demise, but i can't help myself.

I would love I tell you just love it if they went down.

Am i alone in my feelings or are ther some WW brothers ad sisters sharing my views?

Agree with you 100%. I love the word 'schadenfreude'. Joy in the misery of others. A very sad emotion really but very human all the same. In Newcastle's case though they deserve it. They look down on us as a shit club (actual quote from their fanzine) but they are a total joke for all the reasons Worthy states. Unfortunately I can see them getting out of it thanks to Hull, Boro & Albion.

  3. I don't agree with that Mounts mate. I think Megson is a better manager than Brown. I like Browny as a person but he is a typical lower league manager. he is very naive and not professional enough. He still hasn't learnt when to keep quiet about his feelings.

As for tactics he looks naive there as well. Hull and Bolton have similar financial budgets I would say, but I think if both clubs kept hold of their managers, Hull have more chance of being relegated than Bolton. Both managers have their faults, in Gaz's case it is his communication skills to fans and media.

Also I notice the Megson Boo Boys that were shouting Browny's name earlier in the season don't seem to be doing that anymore. The dickheads have moved on to Owen Coyle chants. Lets hope Burnley don't go on a bad run or they will be lost for words.

For what it's worth I agree with Zozzy. I don't think Browny is a better manager than Megson. Nothing against him personally but I think he jumps in with both feet too soon and would be a much bigger gamble in charge of us than Megson. Didn't like his public rollicking at City and I think he is now panicking with his tactics and his demeanour in the media. If we ever ditched Megson I would like to think it would be for somebody more promising than either Browny or Coyle who would have to keep Burnley in the Prem to impress me.I also think Hull will be lucky to avoid the drop. If they do get relegated would there still be the same clamour for Browny for Bolton?

  4. I must admit, Matty taylors one-on-one with the keeper following the pass of the game fow salamander smacked a bit of a player frightened to death of having to suffer the wrath of the fans.

He just missed it! Do you think he had time to actually consider what you're saying? Instead of hiting it first time he tried to make sure with an extyra touch, wrong decision but it happens. Taylor is a decent player, if he finished all his chances and got all his crosses in he would be world class and wouldn't be playing for us. Think you're seeing things that aren't there .

Agree though we all need to get behind the lads. Thought we did at West Brom. First time I've stood uo for the entire match for ages as well. Should have won bu beat Boro and we're almost there.

  5. You are right, I'm trying to make myself look clever and defending him. Meanwhile in the AOB thread I call him a pub player.

The first goal was AOB's fault obviously but Jussi was wrong to come out for a ball that wasn't going to reach the box. If he'd stayed on his line, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Fair enough, I'm too disappointed to read the other threads. No point in arguing about who was worst. Onto the Hawthorns.

  6. Can I chuck Jussi in n'all? He's spent years not coming for things and today he was charging round like a mad man. I can sort of understand AOB's panic.

I knew there would be someone defending O'Brien. As in everyone else will be criticising him so not to be one of the herd I'll try and look clever by making excuses for him. Often happened with Nolan in the last couple of seasons. He wasn't the only one by any means but he was the worst of a very bad bunch of performers today. And it's not exactly the first time is it? Weak link all season. If Puygrenier and Big Danny are not better options then we are in trouble.

What worried me was the complete lack of fight in our players today. Nobody seemed to be working for each other, moving off the ball, covering, geeing the others up. It was dire, as bad as I've felt in a long time leaving the Reebok today. Again where was plan B? Why no width to our play? People moaned when we played the long ball under the previous (but one) manager but it feels like we are playing it much more now.

West Brom up next, I'll be there. surely we won't lose to them?

  7. The idea that limiting foreign players will improve the England side is simplistic at best. Why has Blatter singled out England again? Only a 'handful of teams' can win any major league in Europe and guess what, those handful of teams are those that regularly qualify for the Champions League. By making this competition a league, UEFA/FIFA (both piss in the same pot, no difference to me) have unbalanced modern fooball to such an extent they risk ruining it. This would never happen in the NFL where the value of genuine competition is appreciated and measures are taken to try and level the field. That's why there have been so many different Super Bowl finalists/winners in the last ten years.

Blatter is a complete nob who has to justify his existence by coming out with crap, unworkable ideas. This one will go the same way as his other's such as dividing the game up into quarters and widening the goal posts.

  8. There's always 2 Old Firm games at each venue so long as they both finish in the top 6.

It confuses the feck out of me to be honest. The problems occur when a team gets in the top 6, who isn't expected to.

It's a stupid system and I've no idea why they dreamt it up.

It's a total pop and crisp league embarrassment.

  9. Modern replica football shirts are for kids and not rights. Our current two are the worst so far, got to be.

Following on from what Traff said, it would be absolutely fantastic if we didn't have a sponsor at all on the famous white shirt. Don't get me wrong Reebok has in many ways been the perfect sponsor, world famous sporting name with a Bolton connection but I would hate to have some random .com/sat nav/ on line gambling logo all over the front. Anyway shirt sponsors are so yesterday. We could be like Barcelona! (and er West Brom).

  10. Dont agree with that

I do. Surprise Surprise. Dropping Nolan would have been very tricky for Megson just as it was for Sammy Lee. Nothing against him but this was a good move for BWFC. Frees us up to be a lot more inventive in midfield.

  11. I dont think he had his best game but 'fookin shite' :nea: Here we go again.

He worked his nads off covering ground all over. I've criticised him defensively before but he was back, heading clear from Newcastle crosses so don't see much wrong there. If you'd signalled out Elmander I would have understood more. Jury still out on our ?8 million man for me. Steinsson was turned inside out by Jonas, a good job his delivery didn't match his approach.

  12. If you are talking about your reappearance on WWays, you'll get almost unanimous agreement you fcuking doom monger.

I was not his biggest fan and, in truth, still ain't but FFS you have to give the man credit for good signings and measurable improvement. I believe mid forties points and mid table finish which has to be classed as progress and deserving of this new 'rolling' contract he has been given.

    =D> :yahoo:

  13. the aim of the game is to put the ball in the net more time than the opposition.

how you go about doing such a thing (within the laws of the game) is not important.

Very true. I was watching Revista de La Liga on sky last week and Guillem Ballague (who happens to be an Espanyol fan) was going crazy about Barcelona's excuses for losing to his team at home. What did they expect he said, the red carpet and them to roll over. He was also laughing out loud at Barcelona's criticism of Espanyol's 'anti-football', what is that he asked and pointed out that Espanyol played within the rules, with a football so what was the problem? Reminded me a lot of the stick we get when we beat teams. Nowadays it even comes from the likes of Newcastle, West Ham and City supporters when we beat them. I love it though now, stuff 'em:rofl:

  14. Apart from being in my and most others opinion a dead cert to go down.

Watching the everton west brom game an West Brom moving the ball around brilliantly playing well, I think they will still lose the game as they have no end product but there passing is up there with the best.

When they played us I remember thinking they were a good footballing side but with nothing up front. They haven't managed to sort this out and will finish bottom. Stoke and Hull to join them back in the Championship. We sign James Morrison in the summer.

P.S. No relegation battle this year for us, I confidently predict. 8th on 51 points. Hope that isn't the kiss of death!

  15. The one good thing about that proposal to play a Premier League match abroad was that it sent Blatter & Platini apoplectic. I hope that if UEFA ever did try to penalise English teams the Premier League would hit back. The ace that the EPL has is its world wide appeal. Millions of Chinese/Japanese/Indians/Malaysians/Africans etc etc would not get up at three in the morning to watch French,German or even Spanish football. UEFA are jealous as fck about this and how it erodes their power. Does anyone really believe that UEFA wants to help the England national team by imposing rosters? Anyway, how many English players played in the Champions League Final last year?, quite a few if memory serves so what is the problem?

  16. I still can't see how the EU can/will allow this. It is against all their principles of free trade.

I would have a lot more respect for what Platini is trying to do if he admitted that it's the Champions League that has unbalanced European (not just English) football. Look at France, the same Champions for seven years running mainly because no one can match Lyon financially because of their Champions League income. Platini holds French football up as an example? No thanks.

Putting my English hat on again, why don't UEFA seem to mind Franco's team throwing obscene amounts of money (dubiously gained) around? Accusing English teams of 'cheating' financially when its his ex-team Juventus who were actually convicted of cheating? Give it a rest.

The 6+5 rule is just the start of the attempts to stop English clubs dominating Europe. If this doesn't succeed, expect something else. Remember what happened in the mid eighties. I do not want to sound like a little Englander but Platini/Blatter and co are shitting a brick at the prospect of another English dominated Champions League this year and beyond.

Personally I don't care how many English players play for the Wanderers. I am proud of any local lad who does play (even though they seem to get dogs abuse) and I think Megson should be applauded for bringing young English talent through but if there was a better foreign player available, in any position, get them signed.

England were crap in the seventies and that wasn't down to foreign players so stop blaming them now.

  17. Reasons to hate the F.A. (Just off the top of my head)

1.The cost of the new Wembley never mind whether it is actually needed or not.

2.Playing FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley to help pay for the above. Also ensuring England matches are never played around the country again.

3.The corporate ticket selling at Wembley which means that there are banks of empty orange seats right in the middle of the main stand at matches that could have sold out. The FA don't care they have got the money, the reals fans and the atmosphere suffers.

4.Selling England games to a mickey mouse, anti-English outfit like Shitanta.

5.Trevor Brooking &. his pro Wet Spam cronies. Illegal transfers-no problem.

6.Devaluing the FA Cup by pressurising Utd into playing in the World Club Cup or whatever to try and boost their ill advised world cup bid. Didn't work did it?

7.Giving Sven another lucrative contract after the Brazil match. Then Steve McClaren. (Why do England pay their managers so much more than say Italy or Spain?)

Useless, bent , spineless tossers the lot of 'em.

  18. Steinsson is the best right back we have had in the Premier League. Not perfect by any means but I think Yatesy's criticism is unwarranted. There are more pressing concerns than Steinsson. Overall I think he has been a very good signing, one of a number of current players good enough to keep us in the Premier.

Not sure we have the best squad yet but the signs are encouraging. The age has been brought down and with some decent solid signings in the summer it certainly could be. I would expect Megson to go back for some of the targets considered in January and get them at a better price as well. I'm thinking of the likes of James Morrison. Plus of course the flair midfielder we need.
