  1. i still scratch my head in disbelief that freedman was ever appointed in the first place .. average player .. no solid and clear success in management, listening to his post match interviews recently he sounds lost ... i don't doubt he's a nice enough guy however like coyle before him no plan b ... fact !!! ..... I don't blame him though - that lies at the feet of mr gartside who hired him based on what ?? crystal palace in a play off position midway through a season ! .... Gartside should resign its time he took some responsibility for this .. the fallout from allardyce is plain to see ... i don't really give a shit who the next manager is - i want gartside out ...the sooner the better ... the longer he stays in position the worse its going to get
  2. Broadcast yesterday ..30th march ....I was on the paddock fence, Everyone's seen the worthy goal, didn't remember england manager ron greenwood being there or tad novak's debut ... full match highlights and interviews ...a must see .... cant believe how much airtime we got ! https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/the-big-match-revisited/series-2/episode-17-bolton-wanderers-vs-ipswich-town-1978-79
  3. Just to take your minds off uefa/relegation depression here's a little story from my Wanderers history. In 1978 just before my 10th birthday (39 now) my mum accidentally bumped into Ian Greaves (then Wanderers manager) downstairs in Whiteheads store sports department in Bolton town centre. How she managed to persuade him to give me a guided tour of Burnden Park and meet the players as a birthday present I will never know. Anyway it was probably on reflection all these years later the best birthday surprise I ever had. I remember being in the changing rooms with all the players folllowing a training session. I was totally in awe. I was presented with a signed (by all the players) souvenir casey ball. I treasured it. One day though I could not resist going out on the back field where I lived (Gilnow) to play with it. After a break between being Frank Worthington and Neil Whatmore combined I took a toilet break and left my ball in my back garden. When I returned - it was gone - this is where it gets embarrrassing - with me distraught my mother phoned the Bolton Evening News - they in turn offered a reward for the ?9 ball - next thing I know i'm dragged out of class at school midmorning for a posed glum looking "Paul is devasted" page 9 headline photo story (cue huge amounts of pisstaking and bullying on the council estate where I lived). Fortunately though this tale had a short term happy ending. The Evening news in their infinite journalistic wisdom scratched a few backs and whisked me off on a 501 bus after school up Blackburn Road to a rendezvous in a sports shop with two Wanderers stars for a replacement ball. This story in their opinion now represented a front page slot .... (cue even worse pisstaking) ... I haven't named the players photographed with me.. i'll leave that to you ...... Happy days (if you're old enough to remember) ......
  4. He was looking for a way out as soon as he felt the time was right. The one thing he did right ... he took as far has he could .. this is ultimately as far he can take Newcastle too ..... what goes around comes around ...... just remember the best chance we had to win a trophy in recent times he blew against 'McClown'. Says it all ......
