  1. Am sure quite a few on here will remember this lad Played for Rovers Burnley and Bury amongst others Decent player - saw him several times over the years Passed away today - was only 52 https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/len-johnrose-dies-age-mnd-b2145460.html
  2. "Where were You on Thursday Night" from the City fans at the Etihad was funny I think the other explanation given was its timing - it being played at the back end of January ( the 21st ) the week before most people got paid and coming as it did 4 weeks after Christmas , when a lot of people simply didn't have the money.
  3. Be interesting in particular, to see how he references , if at all, Stuart Hall's contribution to the programme over many years ?
  4. Very pleased with that draw - great opportunity for Evatt to pit his wits against Premier League opponents Was hoping it might be broadcast and we get benefit of TV money but Newcastle @ Tranmere Everton @ Fleetwood and Leicester @ Stockport probably more appealing to the broadcasters - soon find out Villa lost at Bournemouth at weekend and will go into this match on back of tricky games at home to Everton and then away to Palace - both of whom will be keen to get points on the board. ( Palace are at Liverpool this weekend ) Could be ideal moment to be playing them
  5. Picture taken last night by a Huddersfield Town fan flying into Manchester Airport and shared on twitter
  6. "If you Build it - they will come " ( Field of Dreams 1989 )
  7. Sad to read this Getting in the car after the match and that famous music Cannot believe its been axed link here - https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-62397375
  8. Wycombe charged £23 Wednesday advertising £25
  9. As @Tonge moor green jackethas said it makes commercial sense - its about maximising revenue - it's not about greed Fact is whether Sheffield bring 4,500 ot 5,153 which is what they have been given its going to require virtually same police & stewarding manpower 653 extra wednesday fans will put circa £20k into club coffers to cover policing costs If it inconveniences a few hundred who call home the "crazy corner" for a one off game ( possibly two this season at most ) so be it This is about rebuilding and restoring the club - when and if we ever start selling out the home sections you have a valid point and I would be in agreement with you about cutting visitor numbers if safety dictates it is necessary
  10. Less than 3 years since this club was saved from extinction We are accusing FV of greed Beggars belief
  11. Just to conclude this thread New Oldham Owner and Chairman Frank Rothwell Local guy - owns Manchester Cabins Old School - Quite a character
  12. Anybody know how many tickets we are getting for this ? Would appear the fixture has fallen kindly in one respect They are having a lot of Health & Safety issues at Vale Park and are planning on permanently relocating visiting fans to the smaller end opposite later in the season For now though 2 of their stands are open with reduced capacities - suggesting home crowd is likely to be only 8k-9k ?
  13. Started listening on 5Live Not a big fan - nothing against women's game 5 times in last 20 minutes made a comparison / reference to 1966 World Cup win / 56 years ago By all means create your own history But please stop referencing to and piggybacking on the history of the men's game
  14. Agree Whilst I dont think there is anything untoward in terms of false accounting or doing business with connected parties going on ,It does lead you to question their commercial judgement and common sense - after all these were the people who given the chance and cometh the hour were going to save and run the club !! I guess they have made a decision to try to expand their membership to justify their existence and believe social media expenditure will convert to increased membership It begs the question as to why someone with an IT/ media background was not recruited onto their board at the outset to do the work on a voluntary basis. It was an obvious and necessary skill set. Am sure we all know fellow fans who are more than capable and who work in that industry. The fact is their moment has gone, they now cloak themselves with affiliates that include a back street bar in Benidorm run by a couple of Wanderers fans, in order to try to reposition themselves as head of some sort of global supporters network, because the truth is they are desperate to remain somehow relevant. In my opinion their views on how the club should be run are no more relevant to BWFC and should be treated as such , than those expressed at the annual get togethers at the Wanderers Lottery Agents do's that used to be held down at Pembroke Hall. In fact , far less so because at least those agents ( who i do not mean in any way to disrespect in mentioning ) at least put money into the club One final point - To put their IT expenditure into context Pompey Supporters Trust which actually bought Portsmouth FC and had circa 2500 members and held nearly £3 million of fans money only had total administrative expenses at its height of circa £35k and for the last couple of years does not have any running costs - i guess its all done by well motivated volunteers. I guess that's what happens when you set out to be truly representative, inclusive and seek to avoid cliquism
  15. They have made some decent signings for a club at this level but A lot of the shout outs and backing for them is based on the appointment of Kieran Mckenna as their Manager A lot of talk already of him having the quality to make it in the Premier League Some of that may be media hype given his high profile background. As a player ( Irish League and Tottenham ) whose career was cut short by injury he has already managed Tottenham and Man U at under 18s , and was then promoted to assistant to Jose Mourinho at Man U , a position he held for 3 years. However, to be fair to the guy he does seem to be doing a decent job at Ipswich. Following his appointment they had a good second half of the season, similar to ourselves, but one stat that caught my eye was that following his appointment they conceded just 13 goals in 24 games .
  16. 17. Reading this got me thinking about previous memorable opening day fixtures, a topic possibly worth a thread of its own , and before referring to the record books to look up the dates and scores , and leaving aside the Wycome game which will be forever remembered for reasons of its own, these are the ones that came to mind. Burnley away in 77/8 - promotion season 1-0 win, massive Wanderers following, Trinity street packed at 11am, fans running amok all over Burnley Town Centre. Great day out. Bristol City home 78/9 - first ever first division game, got beat 2-1 by a team that we did not really regard as being "first division" opponents, euphoria and excitement evaporated in minutes and realised it was going to be a long and tough season. Grimsby Away 94/5 - 3-3 - great entertaining first game of the season Wimbledon 95/6 lost 3-2 first game in premier League - probably hottest day ever for watching a match Leicester 2001/02 that amazing 5-0 win - awesome performance only one i have any memory of from the 80s was Southend in 88 and that was not for the football. Be interesting to read of those that others recall
  18. Thanks for posting this Some interesting snippets in there - sounds like they have done a cracking deal on the shirt sponsorship No mention of the proposed developments around the Stadium and how that might be structured and how it might impact on the club and its future finances moving forward , but that is perhaps too far in the future But nonetheless a very well structured article that reiterates the fact that for the moment in FV we are in good hands , who without the deep pockets of an Eddie Davis at least have the acumen and as importantly the contacts and connections to go out and raise new sources of finance to support the cash flow of the business as and when required , and that may well be the way it is for the next few years.
  19. You have got to admit Bassini is the gift that just keeps on giving This appeared on Twitter yesterday - he has now moved onto addressing the Birmingham fans directly Look at state of him - Looks like he's on his way home after a night on the town Just waiting for the Jewish Chronicle exclusive , the papers in the park, and then the megaphone outside St Andrews now
  20. He arrived following our relegation to Division 3 and played 71/2 which was only my second season of going to BP Was still at primary school and at the time went to games with an older mate and his much older brother. Can remember Henry and that chant ( Stick the Bloody boot in Henry ) but was way too young to properly appreciate individual players skills and qualities - apart obviously from Gary Jones when he famously scored a hat trick against Man City that season Couple of things that stick in my memory from that season - being terrified when thousands of Aston Villa fans turned up at Burnden chanting "Power to the Villa" and running amok ,they were a huge club in that division that season. And going to away games - mates brother had only recently passed his driving test and had absolutely no sense of direction whatever , so like many others travelling by car we used to congregate on the car park at Burnden and literally follow the supporters club coaches in a convoy to the likes of Port Vale , Rochdale , Oldham , Chesterfield etc Anyway - RIP Henry - you helped stop the rot and turn the club around
  21. I reckon you are more or less right - seen it in 1890s articles for sure- often spelt as Socker - back of my mind think it might have originally been a slang word used by university teams ?
  22. Remember going down to Aldershot for the first leg expecting our fans to turn out in numbers , Thought we would treat it like a cup tie , get behind the team and somehow escape the drop . We'd had a superb turn out at Coventry for the FA Cup tie a few months earlier and ok it was a night game 200 miles from home but it was the realisation that night that most fans had given up on us. Could not have been more than 300-400 there Looking back at the results that season from mid December we won just 4 League games from 27 , 2 of which were against teams (Carlisle and Darlington) that finished below us, but it was losing at York who finished a place and 4 points ahead of us ,with 3 games to go and then at home to Doncaster in the following game were our fate was sealed .
  23. This is a great little Story (thought someone might have mentioned it ) 2 teams in Sierra Leone second tier going for promotion At half time one leads 2-0 the other 7-1 Knowing that the team with the better goal difference would be promoted they both went for it big style in the second half Final scores how about 95-0 and 91-1 !!! https://www.bbc.com/sport/africa/62049926
  24. Could not agree more or have expressed it any better
