And also is completely contra to the guidance. Mine are begging to go to the grandparents but they’re not.

The problem is clear. The message is stay in your houses. But there are exceptions. And people are finding ways to bend and twist the exceptions. And giving them excuses isn’t helping. I sort of agree with what Rayner says in that for me this is fine. I’ve a garden and even if not allowed out for exercise I have outside space to use. But people without that in flats etc it’s tough and not letting them out could be counter productive in the long haul. But it’s the wrong way to have said it.

Had a police caution apparently. What was she thinking?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52145140 This is not good. But I’ve heard it from two nurses I know. Both have been told not to publicly complain. We aren’t China. We need to stop censoring the news like this. And we need honesty about the real situations healthcare workers are facing.

I’ve not heard a bad word about him. He’s the leading expert here.

France yesterday starting reporting all deaths not just hospital ones, why their numbers were so high apparently.

The state will pay 80% and Liverpool will top up the other 20%. Not even sure that is allowed but that’s what they mean.

Asking a question on repeat is only necessary if you don’t get a proper and truthful answer. When Hancock came out and answered honsetly about testing he wasn’t asked again. In fact he invited follow up questions. Clear and transparent and honest. Before that they weren’t being honest. If they had at the start mobilised our lab space we could be doing more tests, because they didn’t we arent. But now they are. This is exactly why these questions need asking. Now they are doing what can be done it’s a good thing. A positive.
-
Exactly. They are reporting honestly rather than dealing in approved spin.
-
That’s ridiculous. They are there to report and have editorial opinion. When they did that for the election you didn’t have an issue. When the spectator were releasing articles saying the measures were over the top you didn’t call them out, you said they were interesting pieces for debate, yet they were heavily critical of government policy. What you really mean is the media is a disgrace unless it echoes my world view. The fact elements of the media who were integral in getting Boris elected have now criticised him for some things is surely a great thing - it shows that in a crisis the media will ask pertinent questions and not just tow the same old lines. Otherwise we are basically Chernobyl.
-
You’ve not looked. I’ve praised Hancock and Sunak. Their economic response has been superb. I’ve said so. Their response to criticism over testing on Thursday was also good as was eventually their semi lockdown. But the things that really matter now is proper PPE access to ventilators and we need to make sure we have the same level of PPE they have in Italy, for example.
-
What he said echoes everything I’ve been saying. We need to work together but that doesn’t mean where things look wrong we shouldn’t call them out. This is about life saving. And whatever you give the government out of ten if we can get other constructive voices in we can only improve that score.
-
You’ve not looked very hard then have you.
-
Why is this about politics for you? It’s about people’s lives. Where things have gone wrong they need challenging. If politics means we have sacrificed ventilators at speed then it needs challenging because it’s about saving lives. Now Starmer will be involved and I think that de politicises this and makes it about getting things right to keep people alive.
-
This is not normal. This is severe measures to manage capacity. And there is no ‘may’ in there. Death sentences for many.

Boris extends invitation for opposition leaders to work with him. On the day Corbyn is gone.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52155359 Not according to care home managers. Or the BBC.
-
We are managing ventilator capacity by restricting hospital admission and trying to get groups to agree to DNARs. Care homes are being told their residents won’t go to hospital etc... Saying there is enough ventilators is like saying there are enough toilet rolls so long as not everyone wants to wipe. Doctors have been issued guidance on how to prioritise treatment. It will vary area to area. But already people who normally would be admitted to ICU are not being. Like me or not belive me or not that’s the reality.
-
You don’t start sending out guidance about DNAR for a laugh. The shit has hit the fan. You just have to admit you got this wrong.
-
Because we don’t have enough ventilators and ICU capacity. We are now like Italy was.

Wasn't gutted was fucking livid. Never seen anything like it and never will again.

I'm not sure why this is specific to football players? Should any or all of the top 10 or 20% of earnings be giving up their salaries in order to allow their employees or lower pay grade colleagues to be paid? Not sure why football clubs are a special case. If you think that then surely likes of Branson should be paying their own staff - he can afford it.

We're tracking on Italy - not sure how that is better than expected when you said we'd never see the sort of numbers Italy have? Last I saw our deaths were growing at a steeper rate than Italy's....

Sadly the email about flour went straight into Goves junk box so he missed it. But don’t worry if we are all optimistic enough and don’t complain they are sure flour will be on its way soon. In fact I hear Tesco are getting a delivery of 30 bags later on...

I think the issue is it may detect other similar antibodies to the covid-19 one and return a positive result - when in fact someone hasn't had the virus itself. Some early testing of these kits is not all that encouraging. The problem is if you make it sensitive enough to detect all cases at a certain point it is likely to return false positives. If you reduce the sensitivity its likely to return false negatives.
