  1. I think we're all hoping for a win tomorrow to really make a statement that we're back in it. Then I thought about when we last won away at a relatively half decent team. The current positions of our 9 away wins this season are 8th, 13th, 16th, 17th and all of the bottom 5. Our "best" win, Lincoln, was against 10 men, we still await that great away win like we had at Posh and Barnsley last season. We are long overdue and it would be huge if we got it tomorrow, it feels like now or never if we want top 2.
  2. Last time Blackburn were in L1 they finished 2nd on 96 points and averaged 12,173. For some balance, I'm assuming their S/T prices weren't very attractive and it was one of them periods they'd fallen out with the owners. They did get 27,600 on last day of season v Oxford.
  3. Cambridge and Rotherham spring to mind in last couple of years or so. It does seem odd that a few more teams haven't brought bigger followings. I'm guessing none of our away league games will ever be £10 unless its Plymouth on a Tuesday night or something.
  4. I'm struggling with how its worth it at £50 a game 😀 Its £10 against Reading and that's at least the 3rd game at that price.
  5. That's a fair point, although I'd say Ramsdale was a lot more established having done well at Bournemouth and Sheff U, but a good comparison. I just don't see a Prem team coming in for Trafford any time soon, he needs to prove himself at championship level first, but happy to be proved wrong not for the first or last time.
  6. Move to a less happy household, it makes going to the match something to look forward to (I'm told).
  7. Whatever his potential, nobody's going to give Burnley all or most of their money back based on potential - obviously not going to get another Prem club this year, and no Championship club has that money to spend on a keeper. I'd expect him to start as No 1 for Burnley in the championship and he'll probably build up a good reputation in a team winning most weeks. Then they'll get promoted and he'll be replaced 😃
  8. Blimey I think I'll assume 1pm to cover all possibilities. Or set off when Mark Iles has announced the team on the BN feed, that gives me about an hour.
  9. To be honest I never changed my opinion of De Gea, yes he made some fantastic saves, but overall I'd never have him as a top half Prem keeper. Got bullied, seemed to concede a pea roller about once a month, and always seemed to get rewarded with a new contract! A mystery to me how he was rated so highly but everyone has different opinions of players.
  10. I'd agree with that, Friday is a huge game. We could be 7 points adrift and in 5th position if we lose, or we could be in pole position for 2nd. Massive.
  11. From what I've seen over the years I'd say its about ability rather than consistency. Our players are largely consistent, but even if they were 9 out of 10 for us every week they aren't good enough for the Prem. In the Prem there are inconsistent players eg Rashford, Sterling, Nunez, Havertz but they won't end up in the championship because they have exceptional ability every now & again! Charles or Collins could score 30 in L1 and they'll never get to the Prem (no disgrace in that).
  12. The hope for last game of season is that maybe they won't have a chance of 2nd, and will be preparing for play offs. If we can beat Stevenage, our 2nd toughest away game on paper, its all about winning the following 5 to set it up for last day.
  13. I don't think Pompey are ripping up trees, if looking at individual games, they are just consistent and solid. Only scored 1 in last 3 aways (but not conceded any) and rarely win by more than one. Just get the job done, a bit like Derby and Barnsley, they love a 2-1 or 1-0 win with a fairly late goal. Compared to say Lincoln and Posh that, when on form, have games won by H-T.
  14. Forgot about him, yes a good player and certainly for L1 looks a real asset. Another we paid decent money for, and now seems to be considered more a forward than a winger/midfielder so that's 5 that take the cost over £2mil if I'm not mistaken.
  15. That's a big if. IE still counts Dan. Even without Bod and Jerome that's 4 left. Selling anyone changes things - but that could be Santos, Baxter, Tomo etc, nothing to say any striker will be sold, any more than anyone.
  16. His replacement who played all last season, Muric, looks more commanding. Trafford was great for us in L1 and I'm sure will cut it in the championship. But I'm trying to see a Prem standard keeper in him and just don't think he's at that level, especially physically and being assertive with his defence. I bow to the superior knowledge of Kompany spending £18mil on him, just don't see it myself. If we're both in the championship next season I'd feel happier having Baxter for such a key position when you're likely to be up against it most weeks (different game in L1).
  17. I was at a work get together and got talking with a Bolton fan and an Everton fan, we were still on a bit of a downer post-Derby but telling the EFC fan how well we played in our previous game, a 5-0 win, that we'd both attended. Neither of us could remember who the hell it was against. Proper racking our brains for a couple of minutes and coming up with a couple of wrong suggestions before I remembered Oxford (age is my excuse, other lad in his 30s had none).
  18. Assuming Bod doesn't get another contract, we'll still have 4 strikers that we've paid good money for (best part of £2mil) so not sure IE would be allowed another without selling (I'm assuming L1 for the purpose of discussion, Championship changes everything).
  19. Just watch the EFL goals round ups, you'll see a lot worse defending/goalkeeping than that. And there will be a few every week right upto Prem level where a back pass is handed straight to an oncoming forward and the striker doesn't even have a keeper to beat coz he's gone on walkabout. Modern football.
  20. Quick check, 19th Aug 78; in 80s the earliest was 15th Aug 87 but most were 25th at least, latest a ridiculous 29th August (81). No wonder I was so keen to attend Lancashire Cup games early to mid Aug, desperate for the season to start and to see the new signings.
  21. Didn't realise that, it's making me doubt I want Cov to win the semi now. Having to wait another 8 days for the final isn't great, unless its the difference between Baxter being available and not.
  22. He's "only" scored in 4 of those 12 games, yes he got the winner v Exeter but in the other 3 games he scored in, Lincoln scored 16 goals and without his goals would still have comfortably won. Not saying he isn't a good player, but clearly they are on a superb run anyway and he's just a part of it.
  23. Taking on and beating are 2 different things unfortunately. Us being "on it" doesn't coincide with playing the better teams to date. The incentive is to change that over the next 3 tougher fixtures and if necessary in the 3 that might follow in the play-offs.
  24. At least its now the case that as long as we do our bit, they have to win every single game to get promoted, and so have to really earn it. If we win our games we have 95 points, so goal difference can't come into it, they can only get 96 if they win all 6.
  25. Probably the first Saturday since we won at Carlisle in January that has been good for our prospects! Even our other weekend win v Cambridge was accompanied with crap results elsewhere, so we stood still. Not playing and making progress is the future 😀
