  1. capturing Bin Laden & creating a stable government & democratic legislilture in Afghanistan should have been the priority. Bin Laden provided the brains and the finances for the terrorists. A stable government helps the Afghani people combat the terrorists and drug barons in their country.

Was on holiday last year in Dubai and met an American in our hotel who was en-route back from Kabul. He was some kind of Logistics Manager for an arms manufacturer.

From what he was saying, Afghanistan is a bit of a mess too. The sound of shell fire keeps you awake every night and much of the country is still controlled by bandits.

  2. He blamed the towel heads. Plus you have to admit that a lot of the American Republicans were baying for blood after 9/11, and Bush seemed happy to steam into the Middle East.

You make a good point, I reckon you'd have George W stumped with that one :D

    PB

What happened after 9/11 was a massive manipulation of the American public opinion by the government. Al-Qaeda had NOTHING to do with Iraq but the manipulation was so clever that most Americans now think they did.

Very interesting quote which I always remember....

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

The Americans were dumb enough to buy this and the media too much in Bush's pocket to dispute it.

We British weren't that thick. Instead apparently there were weapons of mass destruction pointing at Israel capable of blowing Tel Aviv up in 45 minutes. 8-[

    Refer back to above quote.

  4. Don't you all call him Big Sam?

Is it because he is big boned and not fat, or do you know something I dont! :D

Once saw Allardyce in a restaurant in Manchester. In a room full of big blokes, he still looked big.

He's not just tall, he's like a friggin shire horse.

  5. And your support is wonderful isn't it.

Your ground was 70% full last night, ours was 61% full in the initial match.

    Congratulations.

    Are you a bit thick?

30% of the original gate was made up by West Ham fans!!

Last night, just 2% of the gate were away fans.

We had double the amount of home fans than you did for the original game, 12k to 24k.

Careful =; This fella pays 40% income tax.

Hammers - do you refuse any argument?

  6. there was a thread not long back slagging him off. A few seem to think you may struggle next season.

If you do improve next season, then people i.e non-West Ham fans will have to give him some credit.

Like some people still refuse to do with Allardyce. :-k

  7. IMO thought Bolton controlled the game in possession terms but WH always looked dangerous when they got the ball in our box.

Boil that down to "who is better"?

They had a striker who can finish i.e Harewood who continues to astound me as a Premiership striker. We had our chances fall to Pedersen who seems only able to score with his left foot outside the box.

Ashton for me looked very poor and has done every time I see him. Admittedly though scored some crackers on MOTD.

  8. As for Pardews antics, perhaps, he does seem to have an eye on the media

also seems to me he's always trying to win over the fans.

e.g when asked a general question last night - started waffling on about "the traditions of this football club"....

is it for the fans? he should be past being insecure surely?

  9. And funnily enough, all our home LEAGUE games left this season have sold out, bar one.

No they've not, you lying git.

I think you'll find that they have:

    Portsmouth - SOLD OUT

    Man City - SOLD OUT

Charlton - NOT MANY TICKETS LEFT ACCORDING TO TICKET OFFICE

    Liverpool - SOLD OUT

    Tottenham - SOLD OUT

But to be honest I agree this whole talk of attendances is rubbish.

To be honest I misread the post at first - perhaps Mick did too?

Thought he said games already played - not games left to play.

  10. Seriously, the issue of energy saving is becoming even more important.

Our cheap, stable gas supply is no longer. Can't rely on other countries to continue it.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4804504.stm

In periods of peak demand we're going to be struggling very soon. The government is already shitting themselves about the issue.

Our company was interviewed this week in connection with storing gas in salt caverns near Fleetwood. This is a scheme previously shelved which has now suddenly reappeared.

And don't forget about a third of electricity is generated by gas powered stations.

  11. 3-bed semi. 5 of us living there.

Conservatory with 2 oil-filled heaters (running on electric) does drain money.

    Hairdryers! They piss me off!

No central heating - so our gas fire gets hammered as do our 2 gas heaters.

I'm forever switching things off after people! Does my head in!

British Gas fooked our original bill up and didn't charge for electric for about 3-6 months - so we ended up behind straightaway - hence we have been playing catch up for a while now.

Uswitch are recommended by Martin's Money Saving Tips.

But from what you lot are saying - Scottish Power.

Is duel fuel still the best way, or can you shop for cheaper options on both?

I'd suggest you join the 20th century and get GCH installed. :D

And get some energy saving ideas too.

  12. Well Why the fcuk didn't you play him in the under 21's? He'd wouldn't have a choice ironicly then! He'd scored raggin 10 odd goals the first season.

Where's you little fcuk buddy Prutton now?

=D> =D> Prutton ahead of Nolan?

Remember me saying that very same thing.

  13. I would imagine the stand will remain in his name.

I would also like to think that the club would commission a satute with Nat holding the FA Cup aloft and place this outside the main reception near the flags for all to see.

Why dont they do this before he passes so that he can get to see it himself?

People seem to commemorate the dead much more than the living.

    Dunno why..

English fans are stabbed in Rome

Three Middlesbrough fans have been stabbed during violence ahead of the club's Uefa Cup clash in Rome, police have confirmed.

Cleveland Police said the attack came from an "organised gang of Italian thugs" who targeted two bars where the English fans were drinking.

The violence happened late on Tuesday as about 200 English fans gathered in Rome's central Campo de Fiori area.

In all 13 fans were hurt, although none of the injuries is life-threatening.

A 39-year-old man underwent surgery in Rome overnight and he remains in hospital for observation.

Italian Police with batons were brought in to break up the violence.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police, who have officers with Boro fans in Italy, said at one point a lighted flare was thrown into a bar where Middlesbrough fans were drinking.

Tables and chairs were thrown as the violence worsened.

The spokesman said the injured supporters were aged between 16 and 55.

It is thought a group of extremist Roma fans, known as Ultras, wearing scarves were involved. Reports said they were led by a man wielding an axe.

The club's chief executive Keith Lamb said: "Some Boro fans were drinking in a bar and were attacked by some Roma fans.

"A number of Boro fans have been injured - a small number - and taken to hospital and received medical treatment. "

Cleveland Police appealed for calm in the run up to the second leg of the cup tie, in which Boro lead 1-0.

Last year a Middlesbrough fan died after being stabbed outside a bar in Amsterdam, after travelling to watch his team in the Uefa Cup.

Brendan O'Connor, 36, of London, had joined friends to travel to Holland where his team were playing Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in November.
