I'm certainly not in the panic camp like what seems like 90% of our fanbase.

Is what it is. If we aren't ready we aren't ready.

A bit of common sense there.

If folk are looking for reasons why we haven't walked the league, everything mentioned leads back to the same thing - we aren't ready.  And I include the inability to overcome injuries, bad luck, attitude, tactics, players, fixture congestion, poor refs etc etc.

Evatt said it was something they had picked up in coaching and highlighted to the players. On field leadership has got to be partially to blame, but if spotted in coaching did they allocate a man to be the one to close  the ball down, if so someone fucked up on the pitch, if not it is fucking awful from the coaches.

Question is where is our spare man? Upfield? Stood on a post not marking anyone? Trying to block a low cross?

There has to be a spare man somewhere.

No coach at any level coaches to leave players unmarked on the edge of the penalty areas from corners. It’s lack of communication from the playing group and nothing to do with Evatt or coaches.

No idea whose fault it is, but it drives me bonkers watching it. Direct strike from the corner like yesterday is always a danger, but even if the ball  goes into the mixer and is headed away there needs to be someone there to pick it up.

    Outthought I'm afraid

Outthought......but not by Paul Hurst. Can't remember who first came up with this but it was before Xmas and loads of teams have been using that template since. However it's a negative tactic inasmuch that if they match us up to frustrate us, they have the same problem that we have. So it comes down to individual performances and winning the second balls etc - it reduces the game to a battle.

And that means that the passers and ball players that Evatt has tried to recruit have to be at the top of their game i.e. playing their tippy tappy under extreme pressure to play through them. That's why we win against teams that try to play football against us and lose to shithouse teams like Wigan - and Derby the other week. And why Maghoma with his tight control showed everyone else how to do it.

It's the same old issue we discussed last season - we're trying to play like Barca/City with League 1 standard players.

  5. There is absolutely no point in slagging off the players. Every one of them has turned in good performances before so we know they're OK but collectively they weren't on the same wavelength tonight and when that happens, passes go astray, frustration rises and performances go downhill. Whether or not there was a collective bad attitude/lack of respect for the opposition going into this we'll never know, but the focus they showed against Pompey (after going a goal down) just wasn't there.

Somehow they've got to find that "cup final" mentality again for the playoffs.

Sadly these type of results have littered this campaign , especially the 2nd half of the season . Do we now rest some of the walking wounded for the play offs or play them to try and guarantee 3rd place ? .

It's happened throughout the season TBH.

Doesn't matter where we finish, we have to beat them all.

    Fuck off that’s just shit.

We've seen it plenty of times before against teams in the bottom half as I mentioned earlier. Has to be a psychological attitude thing - which could be laid at Evatt/his team's door - or players believing their own hype.

We're finishing 4th and it'll be Barnsley in the playoffs again.

Probably best for all parties if we part ways in the summer. Evatt's limitations have never been as strongly highlighted as in this match.

    Yup. If Posh beat us.

    Should we?!

You wanted us out of sight in March?

Pompey have lost 4 games all season and still aren't up.

    Burton A 1 -1, Wigan H 0 - 4, Reading A 2 - 1, Bristol H 1 -2, Leyton (A) 1 - 0, Wigan A 1 - 0, Northampton A 1 - 1, Exeter A 2 -2  - that's 21 points right there down the pan - easily enough to make us champions.

Are you saying we shouldn't have got more points from those ties against teams below mid-table?

I think im right, GD between us/Derby is only in play if we get exactly 4 more points than them, so them getting 0,1,2,3

If they get 4, we have to get 9 which takes GD out of it

And id say 4 or 6 is their most likely haul

Basically we need them to draw or lose against either Cambridge (18th) or Carlisle R (24th)

Yes good idea. You should look in to being a football coach pal.

Your insight into football is clearly brilliant.

    High praise indeed 🤣

...but I've done the coaching thing and still shout my head off at my team mates when I play, much to their occasional annoyance. Just to give the jingoists something else to whine about, I've posted this on the Shrewsbury board:

    Quote
Time and time again Bolton have played teams that are out of form, whose fans are complaining, who have nothing to play for, have a lower half or mid table league position and who suddenly turn into Barcelona when they play the Wanderers. Absolutely no idea what causes this phenomenon but it happens and so many of their fans go away saying it's the best they've played in ages.

I can understand it to some extent with the likes of Wigan and Blackpool where there's a local rivalry, but Burton Albion or Leyton Orient?
A lot of Wanderers fans are saying that the reason we haven't already bagged automatic promotion is because we don't perform well against the "top teams" in the division - but the reality is we've dropped more points against teams in mid-table and the lower half including:
    Burton A 1 -1, Wigan H 0 - 4, Reading A 2 - 1, Bristol H 1 -2, Leyton (A) 1 - 0, Wigan A 1 - 0, Northampton A 1 - 1, Exeter A 2 -2  - that's 21 points right there down the pan - easily enough to make us champions regardless of results against the likes of Pompey.

I've seen enough not to underestimate any team and that coupled with the fact that games can be decided on a freak goal, a defender's slip, a bad refereeing decision and other factors that can't be controlled - let alone poor performances on the day - and have come to the conclusion that predicting results is to a large extent guesswork - it's all about performances on the day.

Wanderers are under a lot of pressure to bring our A game tonight - and in some respects pressure might help to eliminate any complacency and focus their minds - so I'm expecting them to deliver. Anything less would be disappointing to say the least.

Yes I expect us to win - we have to win - but we have to be totally focused, disciplined and ruthless - and that we can control.

You were jumping to the defence of wanderlust, who goes on other teams forums kissing their arses and telling them we're shit before we play them. Do keep up.

Nothing to defend seeing as you apparently never attack.

    Cheese on toast :)
