TV docs do promote the club though. Burnley had one, Chelsea and Palace had docs about apprentices and there have been others e.g. Macclesfield/Robbie Savage. Our story - and our comeback from the edge of oblivion is more interesting than all of them. Which reminds me, am I being paranoid or does the BBC still refuse to talk about BWFC? Watched FA Cup second round highlights on BBC Player and they banged on about other crap games but we got less than 15 seconds which consisted of "Interesting fact: Bodvarsson is the only Icelander to have scored 2 hat tricks in the FA Cup". The EFL show is no better.

I'm wondering if Evatt will be cautious or go for it. Personally I think we should keep faith in our first choice back 3 and attack them which would probably mean Williams over Iredale but as you say picking the midfield is tricky - but what a great problem to have! Difficult to think back to a time when we had so much quality competition for midfield places. Assume they'll be doing the video analysis of Pompey to death and then pick the midfield based on that.

My eyes tell me that Bod has been excellent when he's played, both as coming on as a sub or giving the first choice strikers a rest. (TBH I was surprised at how good CJ was when he came on, running around and closing down like a youngster and then winning a pen - superb effort) Thing is that Evatt has used Bod in specific roles and he's done well in those roles, so why change it when it's working and we're winning? He's the manager, not the fans on Twatter who think they can do a better job of picking the team without seeing the players in training all week.
-
No - I'm saying that Evatt is unlikely to start him in big matches and have explained why I think that. Never said he wouldn't be involved at some stage - just not as a starting striker (unless injuries to others make it a necessity) If I had to guess, I'd reckon Dion and Vic will start with Bod and CJ on the bench (unless Dan's injury isn't bad enough to keep him out)
-
Is that what Evatt told you then? Surprising as Bod came back from the bad injury 5 months ago and was back in full training in the last week of July. Look - I don't know what Evatt thinks about him, but I do know the role he has been given since he came back which, as I have said, is late sub and only starting a few cup matches against opposition further down the pyramid. Evatt has also mentioned several times about his strategy of wearing down the opposition defence, a role Vic is better equipped to do despite his relatively poor control - so, as I also said, I'd be surprised if Evatt changes his MO and JDB starts this game - unless Dan's injury causes him to rejig everything.

Ian Evatt - the guy who picks the team - and has consistently picked Bod to a) come on after Vic has run the defence ragged and b) to start against crap teams in e.g. cup matches to date - as per the original point I made. Which is exactly why I would be surprised if he starts against Pompey. Of course Evatt could change what he's been doing for months for this game, but I'm just saying it seems unlikely. Why is it unlikely that Bod will start? Perhaps because like me, he sees Bod as an "impact player" who simply can't keep up the required workrate that Vic has in the first hour, but is useful at holding the ball up and scoring a few goals towards the end of the game. And let's be honest, Bod hasn't shown that he can compete effectively for 90 minutes since his early days at Millwall and he hasn't had what could be described as a decent goal return since he peaked at Reading before that. He's back up to an almost a 1 goal in 5 player for us but that's only because he's been used strategically in a specific system at specific times by Evatt which has maximised his potential - so changing that would be daft and wouldn't do BWFC or Bod any favours. We all wish our regular strikers had Bod's eye for goal and striking ability but players who have the athleticism and engine required plus natural instinct of that calibre are expensive - but Bod has the finesse without the engine, hence is used sparingly.

It would surprise me. His job is to come on after Vic has run the defence ragged or start against crap teams. Starting in big games is not in his job description these days.

...until the Aussies come calling

...and never played for Wales at senior level for Wales. Great dive Jerome - on the back of more good running. Go Dan.
-
That's not going to happen, but I have to say I'm impressed.
-
Gotta say, Jerome is doing a load of running - excellent workrate so far from the geriatric.
-
I have a theory it's something to do with the number of times we've stuck it in the net but I'll need verification.
-
Horizontal, studs up - it was never going to be anything other than a booking. From the TV/ref's view it looked bad - maybe from the side he didn't make contact, but you just can't do that these days.
-
Kept his head in front of goal and rolled it in. JDB-esque quality in that finish. Great to see, and relief all round.
-
Midfield was good first half but we didn't take advantage of the chances we created - but now CMG finishes cooly.
-
George does it again FFS!
-
We haven't been good at the back, but they've had not so much to deal with when we were holding the ball in midfield and so far this half we've been pushed deeper, inviting pressure.
-
....because we've sacrificed the midfield control that Demps, Maghoma and Morley gave us?
-
Vale threatening a bit and Ikpeazu is a beast up top. Need to re-establish a grip quickly before we concede.
-
Just had a look at some of the kids games. Great second goal from Wet Spam's U21s - they look tidy. Liverpool kids look poor but their goalie made a couple of great saves. Brighton's kid look good and just scored a great 3rd.
-
OK first half but Dion should have had a second when he was caught on his heels and Cogley had a clear shooting opportunity. Vic's struggled with his first touch but has battled well in the 50-50s. Still in the balance IMO.
-
Comms guy and some of the fans he quotes are very ebullient about this, but it's still a banana skin until we pull away from them and although we're running the show, we've not been ruthless enough in front of goal and have given them the occasional chance. I'll be happier if and when a second comes along.

Vic's not having a good night. Not a fan of JDB starting but this is one game that would suit him I reckon.
