Not a pop at our Yank cousins, met some sound americans down the years, my ire is aimed at the British m0ngs who've been hoodwinked into bringing these irrelevant traditions over here. Now as a kid I did like Halloween, but me and mates had to employ all our ingenuity in cobbling together costumes - as our parents' financial contributions would be minimal. They saw the folly of spending loads on plastic tat for one night of 'trick or treating' or, as one mate's dad called it 'begging'. However Bommy Neet always took prescedence - saving for fireworks and collecting/stashing wood for all of October...Second only to Christmas day on the kid calendar - and I was baptised a catholic and went to left footer schools (dunno why - my mam and dad weren't religious). Anyhow, these days? Halloween, Prom Nights, Baby 'Showers', NFL matches inc. Superbowl parties (game length 3hrs - ball in play? 13 minutes), Black Friday - solely relevant to yanks as traders invented it because spending dried up after Thanksgiving and before 'The Holidays', it is a load of bollocks even over there - designed solely to clear tat and to stimulate spending. Now I've heard some born and bred Brits, perhaps they had hols in Orlando once, celebrated Thanksgiving. WTF? I have to admit thanks should be given to the Indians who saved my family from starvation one cruel winter - praise be to those lads at 'The Jewel of India'. Long rant over - am I being an old curmudgeon or defender of our heritage? We'll be saying 'Have a nice day!' soon - loads of the yoof have already got dayglo white Mr Ed fake teeth to flash insincere smiles as they do so...ðŸ˜
