trainer to look out for

Ruby Dante runs in the 3:25 at Market Rasen tomorrow for Mrs Thorpe. She's had two wins and one 2nd place in her last 4 outings and should handle the step up in trip. The top two weights, Browneyes Blue and Sabre Hongrois, probably rate at the main dangers but have both had a big handicap imposed after recent good form. Projected SP of 6/1 looks a very good price for Ruby Dante.

:yahoo: :yahoo: I hope everyone was on this..?!! She's in great form at the minute.

She has one called Davidia running in the 3 o'clock at Newton Abbot tomorrow afternoon. He finished 9th of 12 (118.5 lengths behind) in his first race (and first race of his career over hurdles) for Mrs Thorpe last time out so I'm not expecting him to win. However, he'll surely be better for that run and Thorpe is in cracking form at the minute. Also, the competition is hardly dazzling. I'll be having a small place bet.

Unplaced and lost by a mile, as thought.

Two running at Stratford tomorrow afternoon:

Davidia in the 2:15. Very poor in his two starts for Mrs Thorpe and beaten by a combined 191 lengths in those races. He might appreciate the drop down in trip, but I'm leaving well alone. Otherwise, Hot Zone looks an almost near certainty to win, despite a big rise in the weights.

Simonovski in the 4:45. Finished a very good looking 4th in his reappearance last time out at Newton Abbot. Off a winning mark and over a winning distance, with Richard Johnson on board, he's got a definite chance of winning. Win and place.

Caan in the 5:15. Finished 9th of 15 (beaten by 82 1/2 lengths) in debut over hurdles at Perth last month. Similar to Davidia and can't see him troubling the bookies in this one, although he might also appreciate the drop down in distance. However, there isn't any decent opposition so he might be worth a small place bet.

South Wind Rising runs in the 2:45 at Newton Abbot tomorrow and looks like a decent chance in a poor race. He's run poorly since joining Thorpe's yard (last of 11 and 16th of 17) but should appreciate the step down in both grade and trip here. Finished a close 2nd for Evan Williams in June in a similar looking Selling Handicap (same grade and trip as Tuesday's race) and he's had a half decent finish on firm ground before now. Also, both Mrs Thorpe and Richard Johnson have a 25% strike rate at Newton Abbot. Small win and place bets for me.

Not quite at the races this week is Ms Thorpe! 7th of 7 today, the wind certainly wasn`t behind her?

Indeed, although not much damage has been done this week as I wasn't expecting much from her runners, with the possible exception of Simonovski. South Wind Rising doesn't look particularly promising (although you never know with Mrs Thorpe what she can do with him) and I was very surprised to see her so well backed just before race time - I got 20/1 on Betfair for the win this morning and he went off at 11/2!

Anyway, it's all about being sensible with your bets when following Thorpe, or indeed any other trainer, so that you just stick with small place bets where suitable and go for wins and places where suitable (which will make good money when Thorpe gets the better horses in her stable out). Traf has made a similar point about his list... Following both Traf's List and Thorpe will make you money by placing sensible, thought-out bets.

M Dods only has 1 runner at Musselburgh tonight...worth a punt ?

8.30 Five Wishes (7-1 in this mornings Star)

Probably worth a punt at 9.6 for the win and 2.88 for the place on Betfair. The ground suits but she'll need a bit of an improvement on her last run, which was also at Musselburgh. The competition certainly isn't amazing...

Two running tomorrow, both at Newton Abbot, for Mrs Thorpe, who's due a winner some time soon!!

6:05 - Simonovski had a disappointing run last time out at Stratford but actually goes up in class for this race. Won once for Mrs Thorpe but that was over a year ago. Might be worth a small place bet.

8:05 - Storm Talk looks out of his depth here as she has never gone over the distance before and steps up in class for this race. However, with the exception of Bengal Bullet and Mr Dow Jones, the competition looks poor and therefore she could again be worth a small place bet.

Forgot to say that it was a waterlogged pitch at NA so no racing today. There scheduled to go tomorrow evening and Mr Thorpe has got another couple running:

5:35 - Insignia won really well last time out and, despite having a 15lb penalty for that win, should go close again, particularly with his conditional jockey's 10lb allowance. The ground will almost certainly be heavy, which he won on last time out at Uttoxeter. Win and place bet.

7:05 - Caan was a decent 20/1 third place last time out for Mrs Thorpe and has improved greatly in just two runs for her. However, he's an unknown on the heavy ground but that's the case for the majority of this field. Place bet.

Two run tomorrow for Mrs Thorpe at Newton Abbot, both in the 3:10

Ruby Dante is looking to reel off three straight wins and could well succeed, despite a hike in the ratings and a step-up in class. She has won three times in five starts this season, the last two victories coming over this distance and the same ground.

Rushneeyriver was disappointing last time out in July, but that was over heavy conditions and the dry track should suit him more today. Won over the distance before and in this class of race and, if at his best, could go very well.

Otherwise, Tonic du Charmil looks a decent bet.

Oh dear, both unplaced to cap off a horrible weekend on the nags! Good job I had a little flutter on Tonic du Charmil at 20/1.

Gold Gun seeks a hatrick of wins for Mrs Thorpe in the 4 o'clock at Uttoxeter today. Although he's risen up the weights considerably after those two consecutive wins, he still has room for improvement, particularly on his favoured conditions. Main dangers are Scots Grey, Basic Fact and The Abbots Habit. Scots Grey put together back-to-back wins over fences earlier in the year and is off a decent mark over hurdles. Basic Fact last won in January on soft ground and this field will probably be too strong for him. The Abbots Habit did really well in his first four races towards the end of last season (2 wins and 2 places) but he's unproven on this ground.

Win and place bet on Gold Gun.
