300k on 50 million plus, is not healthy

better than a lot, granted, but it shows the problems we face

and it doesn't include the purchase of anelka

I agree but I'd imagine that they pull every trick in the book to avoid paying tax, you'd have to analyse the actual figures before knowing the true picture.

aye, you're not wrong

its also pretty clear that even though the figures are presented as percentages - which look quite impressive, 20% growth etc - the main areas of income are still the football side of the business

cos bar the football side, the growth in turnover is probably less than 0.5% of the total

be interesting to know whether all this wonderful commercial growth is actually contributing owt yet

securing the land and any down payments would be a capital item, i expect

How they managed to spend ??54 million or so in a year when they spent next to nothing in the transfer market is worrying.

It suggests the football is carrying the rest of the business.

is the majority (??30m?) of that not tv money in and players wages/bonus's out though?

the left over probably pays for the fireworks and trips away to dubai...

Crowds will fall even more if we fail to make Europe, 16-20k average next time round. Maybe then they might lower the f??cking prices :good:

for the millionth time, prices won't be reduced until theres a level where they think they can make more money

cutting prices by 5 quid will not increase crowds imo, but if those numbers haven't been overly manipulated, we'd lose 1.5 million instead of making half a million

out of interest, whats your masterplan

where would master bateman set prices

It was what was NOT said I found interesting!

In previous years the headline announcement has mentioned the reduction in debt.

I can only assume that no inroads have been made in the last 12 months?

it could be the case but thats not necessarily true

dickheads will only moan we should have spent more on the team, so just get on with it quietly

Let's keep the prices as they are, crowds will fall season on season until we're back to the hardcore of 10-12k. By then we'd have 'lost' a huge number of fans completely, who will probably never return. *

we're f??cked next year..

??5m was generated from UWaffa Cup exploits, which we won't have this year and then we have to take into account the ??8.5 million for Nicolas..

Club is doing well, but the figures will make dreary reading next year.... Unless the creative accountants weave their magic.

never mind, we're still top half and wont go down and anelka will score 20 goals a season as of next year!

one question

5m from uefa - that'll be income, but surely not much profit

one observation

anelka will be staged payments - whereas in those figures we may have had a one off hit on diouf

Good one ::::::::lol::::::::

You still brewing up for HW then :p

But, less fans - less revenue (unless you increase the prices), so that Commercial Dept should be doing all they can to fill those empty seats - and if we can't sell out against Man Utd, then they aren't.

look, i'm not really disagreeing with you

i want the match as cheap as possible, but players need to be paid

what price do you think would get crowds up - bearing in mind that the level they are at now isn't bad in historical terms

because i don't see 5 quid changing the minds of many

Maybe the prices can't be changed, just a shame that a local derby v Wigan attracts so few, with both sets of fans following a previoulsy sh??te club.

They need to do something, and they're not. Jackburn are at least trying to rectify their falling attendances, then again they got a benefactor while we got a board who decided it'd be a good idea to float on the stock market...............which did the exact opposite of what they set out to do.

Leigh RMI anyone :-k

the bugger for me is that next year the tv monies increase by plenty, so that should be able to be passed on to the fans

but it won't

the players snouts will just go deeper

Not necessarily, you'd hope common sense would prevail

There has been a groundswell of opinion that ticket prices are simply too high

With more TV money coming in the clubs should at least hold prices for a few years

arnt transfer fees amortised over the length of the players intitial contract?

Won't fans buy food/drinks in the ground as well, and they'll be charged at a stupid by price and served my someone on minimum wage. Then you've got the club shop - more people at the ground leaves more chance of people actually buying stuff.

And ripping fans off doesn't take into account the future of the club. With so many people giving up ST's after we finished 8th, there's less of a chance of them ever taking anyone else to the ground in future. I'm predicting that someone will mention the Junior whites having a 'record number' of kiddies now, but what use is that if daddy can't be arsed paying top-dollar to visit a Library?

We're playing Arsenal & Chelsea soon, these usually attract a fair number of people, but I'll be suprised if we beat the 23k mark. Which, if you were wondering, is less than Derby County will have on against the likes of Colchester. I like the Reebok when there is a decent crowd & a decent atmosphere, but even against Liverpool there were seats all around me in the ESL which were empty.

And I seriously doubt the club have any intention of lowering prices, which is a shame coz they're the f??cking ones who got us into debt in the first b??stard place.

If the value of a player is capitalised into fixed assets then yes, you are correct. The decision to treat players as a fixed asset is not one that Bolton have followed in previous financial years, therefore the cost of signing the player appears in operating costs. As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, this will allow Bolton to show a net position for the players value based on the transfer cost less payments still to be made.

I am a share holder and like most things in life the real story is in the detail, which will only become clear when the financial report and statements are posted out.

More about the story from the Bolton News -

Whites stay in the black

BOLTON Wanderers has increased its turnover this year following a momentous season on the pitch.

The club's owner Burnden Leisure saw turnover rise by three percent from ??53.1 million in 2005 to ??54.8 million.

But profits for 12 months to July of this year, slumped from ??3.7 million in 2005 to just ??300,000 this year.

The company said that increased player trading costs of ??1.9 million contributed to the fall.

Burnden Leisure revealed its finances in its annual report and accounts published yesterday.

Turnover from football activities increased by three per cent to 45.9 million. Despite average attendances falling from 26,000 to 25,200, gate receipts grew by 8 per cent to ??9.8 million, mainly due to increased revenue from UEFA Cup and domestic cup matches.

Merchandising and licensing sales grew by two per cent to ??1.7 million, in what the company described as "a very difficult trading year," but other commercial activities performed well.

Corporate hospitality sales were up by 9 per cent to ??2.5 million, while sponsorship and advertising income rose by 13 per cent to ??3.3 million.

Wanderers finished in eighth place last season, two places lower than last year. That caused a one per cent drop in broadcasting income at ??26.6 million, but this was again mitigated by additional television cash from FA and UEFA Cup matches.

Other football income also increased significantly by 21 per cent to ??2.1 million, driven by high-profile events such as Coldplay concerts, and evening with Donny Osmond and the Player of the Year events.

Burnden Leisure chairman Phil Gartside said: "This has been a memorable year for the club, reaching the last 32 of the UEFA Cup, and finishing a very commendable eighth in the league.

"From a business perspective, the performance was very encouraging, and we aim to leverage our on-the-field achievements to enable further investment for development."

Chief executive Allan Duckworth said: "We're very pleased with the results, but we are also realistic. It is very important to the group that we maximise revenue streams outside football to secure further investment in playing staff. These results show that we are going in the right direction."

Mr Duckworth said that commercial partnerships with Reebok, which has taken out new leases to now occupy all three floors of the North Stand of the stadium, and DeVere Whites, which also saw hotel sales rise by three per cent, showed that the company was continuing to build for the future.

"We have invested in our facilities at the Reebok Stadium and at Euxton, and we transformed our superstore to create a better environment for shoppers."

He added that emerging commercial links with Chinese Superleague side Wuhan FC, as well as developing a new sponsorship strategy and the club's new Acadeny, would hopefully pay dividends in the longer term.

i think this is a big area we suffer from compared to other top 10 clubs.

we just dont have the fanbase who are intrested in splashing out on bwfc mugs and pens.
