Was unvailed as the future of Bolton Wanderers before a home game at burnden park back in the early 90 s when Rioch first took over , low and behold was released later that summer as jules derbys nephew was the only player to sign pro papers out of 16 of us . GUTTED ! As a fan im lucky enough to have known a couple of the first team players and one friday was given two tickets for newcastle with players pass for the car park . Was a sight when me and my old man turned up at st james park and parked our clapped out escort next to glen roaders bmw x5 telling security i was on the Bolton bench that day.

Went to super Johns house in horwich to sell him a knocked off tele, he was 200 quid short so took it out of his missus purse.

Sold same kind of tele to Nathan Blake (he lived in Walkden at time), he came to my house a week later for a washer/dryer and wanted it 30 quid cheaper so he could sell it to his brother, he also tried to bargain with my old man for his Dyson though my dad was having none of it.

Wayne Burnett had a microwave and portable (what was they getting paid 15 years ago the tight twats0

Had Alan Thompsons diadora boots from the coca cola cup final, they used to grace Harriet street in Walkden after Wembley.

Was involved in a bit of a gang bang with 2 Smithills birds and 3 Bolton apprentices (2 that went on to paly for first team)

Thats about it

Almost forgot, had a first team playes fiancee back at mine a few times as my mate who was living with me was boning her, that was only last season

My late Grandfather went to all of Bolton's FA Cup finals in from 1923 to 58.

I own a 1958 FA Cup match ball signed by both teams.

George Best arranged for me to get a lift home after Pete Nicholsons testimonial after getting Pete to come down specially to sign my programme

Tin Tin Dave Higson interviewed me prior to a league cup in the 1990's, its on roadrunner video.

I went to former Wanderer Scott Green's 21st in Derby.

Had a curry in Farnworth with Stuart Storer.

Went on the Wanderers players end of season piss up

John McGinley & Owen Coyle bought me a drink in Ritzy's, even Owen was shocked that McGinley bought a round.

I listened to the Liverpool League cup and Reading play offs, on the phone in Australia.

Was on Australian TV twice at the WACA in Perth, both times wearing a Bolton shirt.

Nearly got into a fight with a kegged up Andy Todd at a cricket match.

& last but not least. A bottle of BWFC champagne signed by Andy o'Brien sits on top of my mantlepiece

Ive done skysports fanzone many times and met most of the presenters. What I would like to know is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, who is Matt? for many years travelling up and down the country almost everywhere I went was graffiti which read` Matt and BWFC, this was years ago starting in the late 70s through the eighties, anyone else ever come accross this in the past?.

Denn....you will know his face. most obscure "BWFC MATT" I ever saw was on a row boat in Plymouth harbour, he still goes to the games usually with big Nick, and can be found at most local Northern Soul night with the great Mr Fredrick Dicky

Here's a couple from me.

Late 1960's (1969, I think) went away to Carlisle United on a knackered old coach (Hargreaves?). I would be about 15 years old. After the game we broke down on the roundabout coming out of Carlisle. Team coach stopped and picked the lot of us up. Nat Lofthouse was the manager, he insisted on stopping. What a gent he was. They stopped for a meal on the way back at, what then seemed to a really posh hotel, I'm guessing it was probably the Tickled Trout. Lofthouse got us all together and said "Now, listen lads. You are representing Bolton Wanderers FC here - a very proud club. I know you won't let me down." We were all a rag arsed bunch of urchins from Breightmet and Tonge Fold and a right bunch of ne'er do wells, but we didn't put a foot wrong in there! We all had a drink, sent out to us by Nat and waited until they had finished their meal. We got dropped off at Moor Lane. Just another example of what a great man Lofthouse was, and is.

When the Brazilians trained at Bromwich Street in 1966 I went down with my Grandad (God rest his soul) who appeared to know every bugger in Bolton. There were literally thousands there each day. My Grandad knew a police sergeant who got us pretty near the front as the team bus arrived at the changing rooms. As the players got off Pele was mobbed. I managed to shake his hand - no bullshit! THere was no chance of getting his autograph. I did manage, via the police sergeant, to get my World Cup 1966 book into the dressing room. There was a team photo of the Brazilian team in the book. It came back with two players' autographs on the picture (Gerson and Orlando) as well as autographs of the manager and the trainer. I've still got the book. My Grandad went to the 1923, 1926 and 1929 Cup Finals and he also went to the 1953 and 1958 Cup Finals with my dad. They're both dead now but I wish I could just talk to them again for an hour or two and ask them about those days!

Last one, for now. In the 1990's I worked for a multi-national company and became good friends with one of the sales managers who was an ex pro footballer. He ran the Middlesbrough youth team when Bruce Rioch managed them. Over that time my mate and his wife had become good mates with Bruce and his wife and that friendship continues to this day. My mate invited me, on a couple of occasions, to be his guest at Bolton games and we always met up with Bruce and Colin Todd for a drink and a natter. A home game where we scored five against Burnley sticks out as well as an away night game at Reading where we actually met Rioch and Todd in the afternoon at the team hotel. I still meet my mate and Bruce Rioch once a season at a Bolton Wanderers game for lunch and the match -usually Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Bruce Rioch is a really nice bloke and I could listen to him talk football all day.

I did fanzone twice - both crap games. A 4-1 defeat to Blackburn & a 1-1 with Sunderland. Great experience at the sky studios though - & you get paid!

Once went to Scarborough away (our 4-0 loss) & our coach broke down at Hartshead Moor services. One of our group then phoned the ground to say that we'd cause a riot & smash the place to pieces if they didn't delay the kick off. Might have worked if Wolves hadn't done it the week before!

Was once interviewed on a Dave Higson video!

Was sort of arrested by the Italian army in a bar in Pisa the night before the game. We'd been taking the piss out of some lads we'd seen in Italian army uniform & next thing they arrive mob handed & we've got our hands against the wall & are being bollocked in Italian at gunpoint!

Whilst I'm on the Pisa anglo italian cup game, I'll put one on here for somebody else - Immediately upon arriving at Pisa train station my (pissed) mate saw a fountain that looked shallow & decided to jump in it. It was a bit deceiving & he immediately sank up to his neck - Trouble was he'd only brought the clothes he was in to see him through the trip & spent 2 days piss wet through leaving wet patches everywhere he went.

Another Pisa anglo italian cup one. The day after the game we were due to get the train to Bologna for the San Marino v England game (the one where they scored after 9 seconds). There was a national train strike, so we clubbed together & hired an ice cream van to drive us there!!

Was pictured in "La Provence", Marseille's local newspaper, on the day of the game after being interviewed the night before. Still got a few copies of our "interview" where we said that Barthez was a clown & that Man Utd are a small club near Bolton.

European 100%er!

Best one was an England game. World cup semi final @ Italia '90. I'm on the official BBC video shown celebrating straight after we'd scored against the Germans. Was only minutes after a minor altercation with an annoying kraut where I threatened to throw him off the upper tier. It's blood high there too - they don't call it the stadium of the Alps for nothing!

er........hundreds more uninteresting tales!!

Lever ender in LA, glad someone can relate to Matt and BWFC. As for Mr Dicky, had a few good outings with his merry band of men during the seventies.

I believe FD is very keen on Chess these days.

Matt is a good lad. Used to frequent the Painters on Crook Street when we were at Burnden. Remember he redecorated the outside of Fulham's club shop.

Met Fred and Matt at St Pats Athletic in Dublin eating a loaf, saying how hungry they were. I passed myself off has a Bolton Scout and managed to get into the directors lounge and came out with a load of pies and butties for them. Sadly if you was about big Nick from the Sweet Green Tavern, he passed away a few years ago.

Different Nick...the big guy from the Sweet Green was always the first in the Rice and Easy Chippy after the game, he also worked on a few doors around town, he was the original gental giant, he passed away about 10 years ago, Matt goes to the games with another guy called Nick tall and skinny with curly hair and specs,

Mr Dicky got married seems to have slowed down a bit, doesn't stop him from being out on the floor at all the Soul nights, he knows all there is to know about Northern

The episode of The Sweeney was filmed outside Stamford Bridge and it shows the gates with the beautiful sentiment of..."BOLTON TOOK THE SHED" masterfully painted...not sure if that was the work of young Matt, this was done on the night we took thousands down there in the League Cup, should have beat them ended up 1-1...then got battered at Burnden 0-6

Got mixed up with the Nicks, i know who your on about now. Matt spent a good spell living in B/Pool but not seen Fred for a while. I remember Fred taxing a lads crombie coat on the Lever against Rovers in 71, and chucking a mate downstairs in the VA VA. But all in all when you got to know him, he was a sound bloke. If you ever meet him again, just ask him about the mad weekend we had at Charlton in 77.

Some great stories so far.

Nicky Hunt used to live next door to me when he was a kid and my parents are still friends with his parents. His grandma used to work for Nat and she got him to sign a couple of BWFC books for me.

Appeared on Soccer AM with Marple Whites and others as fans of the week.

Bob Taylor paid for me and a mate to get into Ikon while the players were out on their Xmas piss up round town. He was dressed up as Darth Maul!!

I used to live next door to Alan Thompson when in lived on Claughton Avenue in Breightmet and he gave me a lift to school once in his white Toyota Celica.

Met various players in Atlantis nightclub, Gudjohnson, Johansen, Jussi, Holdsworth and Nolan......Holdsworth had his own bodyguard. Managed to blag Johansen into buying me a pint as I pretending to be a youth player.

One of my mate's went to school with Louise Reid, a few seasons ago on an away trip to Villa Park, Nicky Hunt got bladdered in the players lounge after the game and my mate had to drive his Range Rover back to Bolton and I got a free lift back.
