It was generally a half hour programme of goals from divisions 2, 3 and 4 with match reports from division 1. Their live Sunday games came along a couple of years later, usually covered by one of the other networks but featuring a Granada based side as the away team. Welsby was there throughout unfortunately the Scouse tw*t. I don't think he presented any of the Saturday shows, although they soon dispensed with Greaves but he was always the main man on their Sunday and midweek coverage. Anyone know differently? I've a vague memory that Warbies got their name because there was a Warburtons advert at the back of the Embankment behind the area where they stood rather than any connection /jobs at Warbies, but I don't really know. Yep, it was definitely because of the Warburtons hoarding. I remember a mob of about 50 Birmingham fans strolling onto the embankment, thinking that they'd just take over that end. TBF, they looked really smart, togged up with harrington jackets, sta prest, trilbies etc But they came unstuck & got booted right down the terracing. I think they got a shock as Warbie's weren't a conventional crew. They were a bit older & wearing work clothes but they wouldn't move off their patch for anybody. SatanGreavsie
Can't remember if this youtube channel has been posted before - and Im not trawling through 90 pages to look! "Ye old football channel", which has compilations it seems for most year from early 70s up till much later e.g. we turn up twice in the 76-77 one (Wolves game obviously and also Chelsea away) - may not be Bolton stuff in any of those years we haven't seen before, but loads of old ground nostalgia in the other vids to help pass the time
miamiwhite
The Hull away one at 27mins in, sounds like a shout of Bolton aggro Bolton aggro allo allo, when we are attacking for the second goal.

SatanGreavsie
To quote wiki on him " he signed for £1,437,500 — an English record, and equivalent to £68.2m in 2019." Pretty damning second sentence on his wiki page: His English record transfer to Manchester City in 1979 was later described as "the biggest waste of money in football history"

Used happen quite a bit when the away fans decided to invade the Warbies space. The large guy who used to work on the door at the King Bill whose name escapes me is no longer with us sadly he passed a good few years ago. They were all shapes & sizes to be fair & not a recognisable mob.In the early seventies we played Blackburn at the Deadwood . Most whites fans were on the Darwen end but trouble started on that concrete home end .Apparantly the warbies had decided to watch the game from the back of that stand & quite a punch up began as they were reluctant to move. For the record we won 3-0 smashing day out.

Take Hunt Off
Doesnt ring a bell (nick) but my memory is getting shot. Remember him around town always smartly dressed & of course at the match. He was a cheerful guy but you wouldnt want to cross him.Thing that I remember most about him was that he was a smart dresser & the rest were scruffy cnts. It has to be said though that they didn't start the aggro but stood up to the them when attacked. I was talking to an old mate asking him if he could remember any Warbies stories. He reminded me of a Millwall fixture when their fans actually smuggled an Alsatian dog onto the embankment & an altercation ensued with the dog getting pummelled as well as Millwalls finest. As someone said never a backward step having said that their territory was well chosen ! As I have said before, I have a Millwall mate down here who was one of the instigators of the Treatment. Absolute salt of the earth lad with a great sense of humour but when the words 'Burnden Park' come up his mood changes and he always says 'facking intimidating place that. We learned not to take liberties'. He reckons that the only places they ever truly got 'slapped' was at Bolton and Preston. The latter always surprises me as we always just took that place over. He also waxes lyrically about Wood Street Social Club which always tickles me. Must be more like the pubs they frequented down Bermondsey way rather than classy establishments like The Griffin

He did undoubtedly get caught up in chasing United, and he was responsible for a managerial merry-go-round. Pretty typical of a local businessman trying to take on the world of football and not being fully equipped to do so. Just the type that Cloughie used to aim acerbic comments towards. According to my Rothmans that was Uniteds away colours that season. Edited March 31, 2020 by dusan nikolic

The strip, particularly the thin white stripe on the shorts, doesnt look like ours that year. The very brief glimpse of the badge does though. Just checked. Not us. Charlton weren't in our division that year.
