Could be some great puns in the local papers with those names for football players, Smith found stoned in old alley way, Jones binned at Binfield.

Mid to late 70s I read an excellent book

It traced the fa cup from the beginning to end one season

Tividale to Wembley

Reporter followed Tividale til they got knocked out then onto the team that beat them

Been repeated many times, both in print and film but back then, it was great

My mate did the FA Cup trail the other year. Surprising how many do it each year. Started in the extra qualifying round in August and followed it all the way through. Think from the first round it was Blyth v Gateshead (which needed a contact of mine to get him a ticket!), Gateshead v Tamworth then Everton v Tamworth. Ended up with Everton winning each time after that so got to the stage where he had earned enough ticket points from the previous rounds to qualify for a ticket for Liverpool v Everton in the semi at Wembley. Liverpool won the semi and I think played Chelsea in the final so absolutely zero chance of a ticket. He travelled down anyway, if nothing else to get a match programme to complete the collection and then watched the game in Wembley Spoons. So near, yet so far.

Aye, I used to have that - may even be bottom of a cupboard somewhere still. As you say, great book.

Colls FA Cup game with Bamber Bridge scheduled for tomorrow night has been called off due to a Bamber Bridge player testing positive for Corona, they have also forfeited the tie

Is forfeit the norm or would you normally ask the LFA to make a decision?

It wouldn't have been the norm previously but then again games haven't been postponed because of a pandemic before :)

Precedent from the previous round was that there wasn't enough time to rearrange to get the tie played before the next round is due so you drop out and tough luck. Obviously it isn't likely to be an issue once the pro clubs enter as they're in their separate bubbles etc.
