See previous post when we had the windows of our coach done in. Cant remember the year, but we lost 5-2 after Jeff Chandler had given us the lead. There was just one more coach, apart from ours, which went from the Albion, full of not-rights. Those were the days!

was at the game

paul fitxpatricks debut, i think

went twice to the place and thank fcuk we got beat both times

Yes, wasnt the friendliest of places. The new ground wasnt much better. We again went on a not-right coach to the New Den and I remember we had to go to the local police station to see if we could pick one of the lads up that had been nicked. While we were waiting a big black guy pulls up in a convertable. One of our lads decide to pour beer over him while he was sat in his car. He got out and stabbed our lad in the neck, right outside the police station. We had to go to to the local crown court a few weeks later, I was a witness. Boy did I shit myself when I got there, as there was loads of black lads waiting outside court. After the case we got ushered out the back way.

By all accounts the black lad in th convertable had only called at the police station to sign on, and ended up stabbing my mate.

Hapy days!

Two games with significant argy bargy and a combined Burnden crowd of 66k+ in the space of 5 days...

Looking at the cover pics the first one shows Willie Morgan leaving a Bristol Rovers defender for dead, with Ray Train in the background, and v Charlton with Frankie, Greavo, and Nicko in the background.

i think the spikes on the railings only lasted about a season before they cut them off

When they first went up a couple of balls burst after being impaled on the spikes. Maybe that is why they were cut off.

the one thing that sticks in my mind when we played millwall at home around that time when they were making a name for them selfs was turning up at burnden park before kick off and they had sprayed millwall in big letters on the wall of the manny road next to were the old club shop was dont remember much of the game though if there there was any trouble . did anyone on here ever go to there old ground cold blow lane been to the new den and thats in a shit hole but some chelsea fans i know recon the old ground was an experience

Horrible place the old Den. Bricks everywhere. Went twice and that was enough for me. Herded along the road by the OB whilst old dears were skimmimg bin lids, frisbee style at us from tenement flat balconies.

When their lads came after us, they were like swarms of fooking ants coming out of every backstreet and alleyway.

My mate down here says not to be offended. They hate and mistrust ALL outsiders.

Had some good set tos with em in Bolton. They used to make their way from Trinity Street to Wood St Social Club and there were a few skirmishes near the Trotters and Clarence. I suppose the Wood St. Social Club was a classy venue for some of them.

Here`s another crap poem of mine which I wrote about my misspent youth. The days of old

I remember the days of old when Burnden was alive,

I remember going to Scunthorpe, now that was a right old dive,

I remember going to all away games the times were really great,

I remember going to Millwall running the gauntlet of hate.

I used to be a hooligan throwing bricks and toilet rolls,

I used to be a singer with the rest behind the goals,

I used to be a target for the other fans to pick,

I used to be a hero when I hit them with a brick.

I now am oh so mellow in my now maturing days,

I now am very different in oh so many ways,

I now am very quiet but there?s a thing I can?t abide,

I now am very angry when someone slags our side.

I like a bit of humour I like a right good laugh,

I like some of these postings but not when they are naff,

I like the decent supporters from official fan sites

I like the funny banter and the taunts that they incite.

Remembering my younger days when segregation at soccer games was unheard of. Then leading up to the present where aggressive postings on web boards get beyond toleration.

I will never forget going to see the Wanderers play Millwall at The Den ( Cold Blow Lane) only a single coach took the Wanderers fans to this game. Millwall supporters had this horrible reputation and they lived up it. I remember running back to the coach after the game being chased by a few Neanderthals.

Every time a ball went near them the burnden terrace used to hiss.

happy memories.

I remember a ball landing on a spike at the front of Manny Road North in the late 80's. Somebody from the crowd climbed up the fence and took the burst ball. A few minutes later someone from the club came into the crowd asking for the ball back.

I remember a game in 84/5 when we beat Millwall 2-0 at Burnden. Very few Millwall fans came but those that did looked to be of the meathead variety and stood close to the Burnden Terrace/Embankment fence in menacing fashion. Can recall the Manny Road North regulars (themselves not to be trifled with) chanting; "we thought you were soft and we were right" throughout the second half.

The most regular contributors to trouble at Burnden were surely Chelsa.

76/7: Bolton 2 Chelsea 2 - including the pitch invasions and events decribed above.

78/9: Two Bolton homes wins (one in the League Cup and one in the First Division, both of which I think were comparitively uneventful).

80/1: Bolton 2 Chelsea 3 - Chelsea fans in many parts of the ground and sporadic trouble throughout.

81/2: Bolton 2 Chelsea 2 - Chelsea fans banned from travelling to away matches a week previous. So the away part of the Embankment was empty .. but not for long as the Chelsea were again all over Burnden, predominantly the Lever End seats. Remember hundreds of them being escorted in to the Embankment in the first half, running the gauntlet passed the Burnden Paddock.

82/3: Bolton 0 Chelsea 1 - an infamous game that was a real nail in Bolton's relegation coffin and kept Chelsea up. Hundreds of seats ripped out of the Burnden Paddock stand and thrown down on to Bolton fans who promptly threw them back. Major trouble also in the Manny Road North stand between the gathered regulard and around 200 Chelsea who invaded the last block of seating, nearest the Embankment. Clive Walker scored the goal - that bastard always scored against us. Despite the fact it was May it chucked down most of the day and Burden was a mudbath.

Sorry ... 70s terrace wars did turn in to early 80s terrace wars.

Anyone owd enough to remember the 1971-2 season cup games against Chelsea

We were in the old div 3 and played them in the 4th round after beating city 3-0 in the previous. We took a load down for a midweek game and surprised them in the end opposite the shed; run them all over the place. After the game our coach load a few others stayed late for drinks and I can remember Bolton fans going on the rampage around Stamford Bridge late on - we drew 1-1. They beat us 6-0 in the replay.

The FA Cup 3rd round was Chelsea at the Bridge again and this time they were on the away end waiting and as we were making our way to the turnstiles Bolton fans were jumping out - lost a miserable game 3-0. With Chelsea fans kicking off throughout the game and the law doing next to nothing to stop them

One of my all time favorite stories revolves around an away day in Blackpool, fighting erupted in the king George the 1v.The landlord used to run the dancers so he let me and my mate stay for another but kicked every one else out. After said pint we left and walked across the bridge to Rigby rd,coming towards us was a gang of lads all decked out in Blackpool gear,so we kept our heads down till we met up,"Alright Oggy" was said,it was abunch of lads from T'Stag off Daubhill they had rolled a rossette seller. We all turned and started to walk to the ground anyway some Ballon in white bakers and an orange jumper spouts "Have you seen any of those Bolton Bastards yet?" It was funny as fuck watching him crying like a girl when the first punch went in.

i would also go with that there was always loads of trouble ever time with chelsea that game 82/83 were it was either bolton or chelsea that could get relegated to the 3rd hard to think looking were they are now it was us or them to go down charlton away that sealed our fate after that . i think some off the worst trouble at burnden was in the eighties newcastle at home when keegan played and there was fighting in the manny road for the full game with the geordies coming over the fence from the embankment and and the manny road lads standing there ground with the bricks flying will never forget that one also the sheff utd game but i suppose thats all a different thread

I was there mate. We shocked em under that North Stand or whatever it was called. They didn't expect a good show from some northern monkeys on a wet midweek night. Probably caught them unawares.

They had some bloke who had made a name for himself in Salonika and sang a song about him '(some fooker) with the staircase nose'. He was quiet that night and there was nothing after the game.

As another poster said, memorable for Graham Rowes goal - the third of a group of three players Sir James Armfield signed from Blackpool (the other two being Nicko and Henry Mowbray). Not sure Rowe scored any others for us?

Early 70's? One Ribble coach load. Plod walked us back up the road then left us to it to leg it to the coach. If I remember rightly we had to wait for an hour or so for one lad who hid in the ground. Bad bad place.

Last home game against Sheff Utd 83/84 season is one that will always stick in my mind............they brought at least half the attendance that day around 6 or 7,000 of them...they were battling in the manny road north for all the game.....there were plenty in the burnden paddock seats near me and there was a few exchanges, remember them charging us in the burnden paddock and everyone scattering...

a vast number of them were in the embankment end.........but when the game ended that was when the real fun began....i got chased everywhere.it was just a free for all.

remember two groups of fans throwing bricks and bottles at each other all the way to green lane, on manchester road.

i was about 18 then and was pretty scared.

I went for a bet in the Bookies over the road before the match that day it was packed with Sheffield lads, one of them was a big fooker who I got talking to, he said his hero was TC I tongue in cheek said your right that Tony Caldwells a good un, he took it pretty well anyhow I went on the the Burnden paddock later that day and spotted the same lad ripping seats out and launching them at the Bolton fans, the paddock was pretty empty and there was more of them than us, after the game I once again decided a sharp exit was the order of the day and quickly jumped on the 542, this time it was not the sanctuary it usually was as the sheffield fans started rocking the bus, after what seemed an eternity the driver managed to drive off and the panic was over.

Does anyone remember Luton fans? we played them in a cup game, they were a 1st division side then. Their fans came with painted faces and caused a few problems.

FA Cup 5th round, the season we got promoted from the 3rd Division? I remember plod pulling a lot of Luton fans out of the Lever End, and then calming them down with a method you wouldn't see today. The coppers would take an arm each and then ram the fan's head into the concrete bollards that formed part of the fence. It seemed to work.

Pete...remember Bonetti dragging Rowe down in the last minutes...nailed on penalty, the daft bugger got up and tried to carry on.....Greavsey would have scored the pen, then the replay result would have not blighted our history

I do mate. Referees were more 'homers' back then than they are now!

The replay was painful.
