As a relevant aside, we used to send players (eg Gardner) to a top sports injury clinic in the USA. I haven't seen that mentioned recently. How/where are we getting our injured players 'repaired' these days ?

That's Richard Steadman

He is / was a pioneer in ACL reconstruction / recovery

I'm not even sure if that's what Holden had

We've not had a particularly good record with players with knee knack of late. Sean Davis, Vaz Te, O'Brien and now Holden have all been on the brink of a come back only to break down and have another long spell out. Also interesting to see that O'Brien has managed more games this season at West Ham than in his last few at Bolton including reserve games. It does raise a few questions as to where we are sending our players for rehab. We don't seem to have as good a record since Allardyce and his team of back room NASA scientists buggered off.

It turns out that the pin they put in his knee to support the original fracture had shifted slightly during the Villa game causing damage to the cartlidge. Nothing to do with our medical staff misdiagnosing the original injury, or the surgeons failing to operate on the cartlidge (which wasn't damaged) at the time. Just one of things.

John McGovern was on Talksport yesterday morning talking about his career. He mentioned that when he was managing Bolton, Warren Joyce used to rub whiskey into his legs before each game instead of liniment but the club put a stop to it because it was costing them ?6 a bottle! Apparently he did it in the belief that it would strengthen his bones. Perhaps Holden's missing a trick there.
