frank_spencer
As eg says go to the top of the cathedral the views are spectacular. The Pearl centre overlooking Reykjavik is supposed to be worth a visit, we didn't manage to fit it in on our trip. The blue lagoon trip we went on was run by the same folks who do the transfers. I guess if it fits in with your flight times then doing the blue lagoon on the same day would he a good idea, you'd be chilled out as fuck for the flight home. If you get time go for a walk around the blue lagoon complex the landscape is surreal. The 4x4 trips are damn expensive so I'd put lots of research into the one you want to do and make sure it goes all the places you want. frank_spencer
Interesting Icelandic fact (2) For Winston Churchills birthday party one year all the countries in a then much smaller Europe sent something for a cake. Iceland sent bananas grown in the town of Hveragerdi (spelling) which is mostly made up of a big geothermically heated greenhouse. They were big 'uns by all accounts bananas, not Icelanders. All the fruit in Iceland is biblically big. apple's as big as yer head. And the only fatties we spotted were yank tourists. Youri McAnespie
Doesn't Iceland have more chess grandmasters per capita than any other nation? Youri McAnespie
Watched something about Bobby Fischer - the jewish anti-semite chess grandmaster. Him and Spassky played there and the were the only country to give him refuge after The States pronounced him persona non-grata. I only have Freeview, in my defence. Oh aye, I used to play that Sporcle trivia list game that someone linked once to on here. Edited October 11, 2012 by Youri McAnespie
gregbwfc
Stayed at the Hilton Nordica, got a good flight plus accomm. deal. Good place. Ale is dear but they have well, not so much a happy hour as a happy night. 2 for 1 drinks up until midnight. Try the lobster soup at Sea Baron - not sure about whale kebabs though. All other suggestions good especially view from the cathedral.

Youri McAnespie
Fact X. 'Our' Eidur replaced his own father in a match for Iceland against Estonia, 1996. The only time a father/son have played in the same international fixture. In researching this, I also was surprised to learn he's also shagged Wayne Bridge's ex-missus. Says something about modern football when you search for a harmless stat, and get a bit of tittle-tattle flagged up as being of greater importance. MalcolmW
Fact X. 'Our' Eidur replaced his own father in a match for Iceland against Estonia, 1996. The only time a father/son have played in the same international fixture. The manager said he would start them both in the next game. Then Eidur broke his ankle in an u21s international, so starting together never happened.
