Bolton will be a shithole for as long as the council is dominated by Labour halfwits.

Reap what you sow etc..

They think capital investment is getting the train to London for a march.

Big town, small minds.

Get that fucking idiot Morris out of there and it may just start to change. Whilst he's in there creaming off the top, it will always be a desperate swamp.

Plan for town centre;

The new interchange is in progress - get them fucking shops renovated or flattened (Gateway to Bolton).

Demolish the shithole Newport Street 'Parade' and move the Market there.

Incentivise Victoria Square traders to move to make way for a 'food quarter' (with outside facilities) - incentivise food retailers to move there.

Demolish the now 'old market' and bus station - create a vast free or low cost car park there.

Try and reduce the size of the town centre by encouraging residential development on the outskirts and discouraging commerce. (I'm particularly thinking of the shitty rows like top end of Deansgate, bottom end of Bradshawgate.

Reet Clifford, I'll expect a hefty sum for that consultation. Manila Brown as usual. ;)

I dont disagree. However the market is staying as they're renovating it atm

BTW, that's one definite plus point for Bolton, certainly the food bit anyway. All meat, fish, fruit and veg from there. I cant believe I persisted with supermarkets for so long.

Bolton Market was the BBC Radio 4 Food Programme's Market of Year 2011, you don't get more middle England than that.

I once had to take two boxes of fruit and veg to the NEC at Birmingham because the chef from Newcastle insisted on using produce from our market. It's true, and it was for the BBC. Our market, like it or lump it, is much better than any others around here.

i drove down bradshawgate the other day from nelson square to the junction near world of fashion bottom of trinity st there are more places boarded up than open, its an absolute embarrassment it needs flattening the entire road. Looks like a fucking shanty town.

Most of the A roads in/out of Bolton are shockingly bereft of life, maybe with the exception of Deane Rd and Derby St and even they have their drawbacks.

The council have got to do something about the way folk come into town to make it slightly more attractive.

Doing the building control for conversion of a bar on Nelson Sq. until the other week I hadn't been into bolton town centre for about 12-18 months. Stunned how empty and intimidating it seems. It's rapidly gone downhill! Such a shame when you look at town centres that have invested wisely!

I visited Warrington town centre the other week and the two are worlds appart!

Our town centre is just way too big. You think of the size of the area from, say, World of Fashion down to Ritzy, then over to Hen & Chickens and then over to Grosvenor Casino. It's huge and far too big, IMO, to sustain so many shops/businesses.

It's a mammoth task for someone to sort it out.

I reckon large parts just need levelling, turn 'em into a park/recreational area or something and then concentrate on turning a smaller area into something that looks and feels appealing to shoppers - like the Rock in Bury for example.

Edit: As Carlos has said, from World of Fashion up to Buffet King (you could also argue up to Nelson Square) is appalling. It really is a fucking eyesore. I really can't see how that could be regenerated for shops/businesses. It all needs flattening.

the rock in bury is alreet, combined with the market right next to the bus station has cinemas, restaurants bars and load of shops which aren't just poundlands, bolton has empty retail parks scattered around the town, the toys r us one is dead the one on Manchester road consisting of b&m and pets at home is dead, the sainsburys retail park seems only busy for sainsburys the town centre has nothing for kids, no attractions its honestly like the council doesn't want people in the center.
