Slave Labour

I'm not comfortable with companies benefiting from cheap labour BUT how's about the company giving the person 'job experience' pays their JSA or whatever? Just the basic benefit, obviously not all the associated stuff like housing benefit, council tax benefit etc. with a proviso that if the person does ok at the job they become employed if they meet a standard by a set agreed milestone in the future.

Company gets cheap(er) labour, gov't saves paying out benefit, person proves themselves and ends up with a job.

There's probably a European law/directive preventing it!

They're not there long enough to be any real use at all anyway so companies are doing us a favour being involved at all, let alone paying to have a customer service risk there for a few weeks.

Anyway, sounds like the courts were moaning at the details rather than the principle so the scheme will continue.

I love the way the coverage emphasises she's a University graduate, as if the fact she sat on her arse being unproductive for 3 years at significant tax payers expense, getting an unspecified qualification which was not good enough to get her the job she wanted, now makes her too good to do work she's offered.

Well said maaarsh, Quite incredible that she really is no different to the benefit couple in the sun t'other week.

These leftist cunts who have jumped onto this bandwagon want it on a fucking plate.

Whine about not being any jobs, whine when the Gvt tries to find work placements for them.

FUCK OFF

Anyway, I sort of get why she got the hump.

As a geology graduate she had a perfectly good placement in a museum (they just crave slave labour in those places, the parasitic capitalist pigs) but the Jobcenter then appeared sent her to a poundshop stacking shelves.

Don't really see the point in that really.

Poundland & Tesco get paid out of taxpayers money to employ these people for nothing,

OK, if you start work on a site tomorrow laying brick, all you'd have is a 10 minute induction before your trowel is out and away you go.

If the Job centre rang me up and asked me to take some bum who's been on the dole for years, I'd have to spend up to a grand getting him his CSCS, training and qualification for plant/equipment certs, and then invest time (=money) whilst he works out what end of the shovel to dig with and which way up the pipes go. I'd have to have someone working with him at all times because some elf n safety nazi will deem him an inexperienced operative so he's slowing someone else down. There would be defective and/or inefficient work to contend with.

For all this hassle, I would get a maximum of £2k. No thanks.

Give me a door knocker any day. At least he's not sat in the fucking pub.

You know, its getting busy out there and we were wondering if we could do with any philosophyists in the place.

I don't think we do.

Elf n safety mon perhaps, QS, office junior, training manager, site foreman, planner, accountant, but I think we're OK on the Greek stuff.

Quite. Then they employ less people at the going rate who'd be paying tax.

Tax payer shafted twice. And liking it, judging by most of the comments on here.

The last Labour government introduced work placements as part of its New Deal programme. Then abandoned them due to massive abuse.

The thing is, they could be a good idea, if done properly. Giving someone long-term unemployed work experience and the chance of a reference.

But they aren't done properly. Companies take the piss and see it as free labour and the schemes aren't policed properly due to under resourcing and incompetence.
