MalcolmW
Another gooden that Malc. Did you used to compete at internationals? Noo. Wasn't that good. Might have won a medal in the wimmins but for the pesky sex tests. Though I have competed on the track against a finalist in each track race of the Inter-Counties Championships of 1968. Think I raced against 14 Olympians on the track, but beating Ron Hill over 800m and 1500m is about as good as it got.

MalcolmW
Mal Whitfield (United States): 2:20.8 (August 16, 1953) Whitfield improved the world record by four-tenths-of-second, running 2:20.8 in Eskilstuna, Sweden. At the time of this achievement, he held the world in the half-mile (880 yards) at 1:48.6, established July 17, 1953 in Turku, Finland. At the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games, Whitfield had won the gold medal in the 800 meters. Also in 1949, he claimed the gold medal in the 4 X 400 meter relay and the bronze medal in the 400 meters. In 1952, Whitfield garnered the silver medal in the 4 X 400 meter relay. So Whitfield had broken 1:56 before his venture over 1000m.

Barnstoneworth White
Thomas Bjorn gave me a half swigged bottle of champagne as he walked off the 17th green at Celtic Manor, after Europe had won the Ryder Cup a couple of years ago and I've been round St Andrews with a net 66, parring the 17th Road Hole.
