gonzo
3 so called experts in computer shop can't figure out what's up with my laptop,so I'm offering it out to wways massives. The screen on my laptop basically goes completely black at any given time.the computer stays running.ie I can still hear the gape tube in the background. The only way to get it back is to switch it off and on by the power button over and over till it choses to come back on,which I know won't do it any good. It started off every now and then but now it's all the fooking time. The lads at the pc shop have ran the laptop through their screens and the same thing happens so it's not a screen fault, they have also cleaned and restored every compartment of the laptop bar the motherboard and it's still happening....so they are saying its probably a fault on the motherboard but can't say for certain and would cost over £250 to replace. So I ask...does that price sound about right? Shall I get it done? Or is there anything else I can try? Remember before you respond, you are dealing with a full blown spastic when it comes to this kind of stuff,I thought a motherboard was some kind of torture method. It's a Sony viao and only 2 years old,and out of warranty. I know it's a long shot...but thanks for listening, tales from the pipside. Guest Frandsen08
yeah don't pay to have it done, laptops go for dead cheap and you could get a new one for not much more.
Andydee
Then take the hard drive out of the old one and put in a caddy if you want to preserve your....errr...files.
DazBob
Put it in a shoe and bang it against a wall. ...or simply glue a load of porn mags to the inside of your defunct screen, and then just turn them over like a flip chart. DazBob
serious answer dont get another laptop get a mac it will save you so much money in the long run I reckon it'd take a long time for it to pay for itself, especially if the only purpose for it is for wanking over. I've had works laptops over the last 8 or 9 year or so and never had a problem with any of them. Personally I'd rather buy a laptop and pay for an extended warranty as peace of mind ... and live with looking less cool on the train. I had a Sony Vaio from memory it cost not much less than my mac after 18 months of constantly s'sorting it out' the same thing happend to me that has happend to gonzo (must be some link between porn) finally listened to my mate and got the mac, 4 years later it runs EXACTLY the same as the first day i got it and iv never done anything whatsoever to keep it that way it now looks like gonzo has to pay 250 on top of whatever his vaio cost, or he has to buy a new one im guessing the vaio wasnt his first computer either i had something like 4 in 6 years that is not value for money if all you want the net for is browsing/youtube/porn/music you cant beat a mac once you go mac, you never go back

Site Supporter White on Tyne Posted April 10, 2013 Site Supporter Share Posted April 10, 2013 Also had a vaio and also had similar problem. Would just power off when it felt like it. After having it stripped down turned out to be motherboard. 'Kin expensive £250 to replace. Sold it on eBay and bought a Dell. Not Adele. Been great. Drew Peacock
Sony are well know for making 'unique' machines shall we say - a decent laptop shouldn't give you any problems - doesn't listen to the apple fanboys

DazBob
Thats the key here Only changed due to works policy of replacing every three years. I'd have happily bought any of em off the company and used them for personal, but the pesky policy is they give them all to schools/charidees. Reading above though and from hearing from other folk, could it not just be that it's Sony's that are a bit shit?
Moderators Carlos Posted April 11, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 11, 2013 If I needed something for pissing about on, I'd get a netbook. They are what, £150?
jazza
my sony is 6 weeks old and the screen is fucked on it too.... It might have something to do with my mate throwing the remote control at the cat and missing rather than a design fault though. it still works through HDMI on to TV though
DazBob
I thought your mate had denied all knowledge of how it could be broken? Why do so many people by Sonys? Is it because they're supposedly better, or because they look snazzy? Edited April 11, 2013 by DazBob
dave2980
My vaio is 2 years old and I've never had a problem with it, then again it cost as much as, if not more than a mac book so if there was ever a problem with it I'd be taking it to Sony HQ and slapping some executives about the face with it! Garrp
the sony was the final straw for me I had a dell, acer and another I can't remember before that. all ended up as slow as a snail when I had fuck all on them not to mention the hours i wasted fucking about with virus scans, cc cleaners and other bollocks. L/H White
I'd say most faults are due to user error, rather than a fault with the hardware. Especially with wways users :-)
