Ok, Rocket, Flying Shuttle...anywhere else?

The Shuttle is currently closed and undergoing major building work.

You could, however take a trip over the motorway bridge into the Salford overspill of Little Hulton, where they have several lovely taverns, such as the Spa, Cyn's and the Raven.

Youve missed out the lovely Michelin starred Shamrock and Pied Piper there

Turton entered the FA Cup in 1879-80, losing to Nott'm Forest in the second round.

The next season Astley Bridge entered, beating Eagley then losing to Turton, who lost in the third round to (Sheffield) Wednesday.

Bolton Wanderers first entered in 1881-82, beating Eagley then losing to Blackburn Rovers. Turton lost to Darwen in the third round. The next seaon Wanderers reached the third round, the following season the fourth round.

In the first league season Wanderers went out in the third qualifying round to Linfield Athletic, whereas Halliwell reached the second round proper, losing to Birmingham St Georges. The previous season Wanderers lost to the eventual winners (PNE) in the second round (9-1), whereas Halliwell lost to PNE in the fourth round (4-0).

The original Turton pitch in Chapeltown is still played on by Old Boltonians ( Turton FC now play in Edgworth ) & is supposed to be the oldest pitch in the world.

Preston, Sheff Wednesday, Notts Forest, Everton, all played FA Cup games there, & on the plaque (bottom right on the link if it works ) it says that there were always big crowds for derby games against Darwen & some of the games were abandoned because of violence between rival supporters.

The mean streets of BL5 eh.. The Heaton favela

Hard life..

BL6 is also the people's republic of horwich..

As for Halliwell, the last bastion of a boozer now has a dance floor and regular karaoke nights..

I can see some of you salivating at the thought of that..
