Site Supporter HomerJay Posted September 1, 2013 Site Supporter Share Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) Halfords is a shit place, but they sell boardman bikes which give you good bang for buck. even their own Carrera bikes aren't too bad. always look for last years model, or even earlier never pay full price. spend 200 to 400. less will be crap but spend more and you may not like it, so will be a waste of cash don't buy from the net, sit on a few and see what feels comfortable. ride it round the car park. bikes that have cheap rrp are cheap for reason. one bike is NOT as good as another oh and buy a helmet and wear it. Underpants
Unless you're going to get into it in a big way don't spend too much (£200 area) I got my bike from Halfords and as a casual bike rider it did the trick. 15 years later it still gets me around, but still spends the majority of the time chained up. Site Supporter HomerJay Posted September 1, 2013 Site Supporter Share Posted September 1, 2013 Charnock Richard cycles is a decent outlet But owner is a right miserable year. I recommend Winstanley bikes in Wigan.
Youri McAnespie
There's a place in town does second hand ones - refurbished. It's just down Knowsley Street past Victoria Hall (on the corner near where the Lads' Club used to be). Anyhow, I was in there for a BMX (not for me,yet...) and they had Mongoose and Diamondback ones, which aren't a patch on the old 80s namesakes - but retail new for around £200-£300, anyway they were selling for £50-£60. Probably pick one up in there for similar, they'll probably let you have a spin on a few too and won't be thinking about the % commission. Plus if you fuck it off they'll probably buy it back... Loads of 'probablys' in that but...

Bigtoe
I got a Decathlon 8.0 rockrider for 249 last year. Only because they were changing the frame colour range. The new ones went back to around 500. Bought it around this time.
