That’s brilliant.

one thing though, the commentary is using metres per second and KM as measurements, even though America uses feet and miles.
is that some international agreement/ standard so all use the same?

It's probably because it's science and more easily divisible

Right I’m a bit of a space novice so can someone help me out

But how in the shitting crikey do you control a unmanned spacecraft millions of miles away?

You don't. At some point in it all, it started to do the things itself.

Not sure at what point, but because of the time lag, it has to make its own decisions.

Woah woah woah so it’s basically off doing it’s own thing and sending data back?
That’s incredible

Saw an interview with a couple of ladies. I think they were working on a different rover project, but it could have been this one. Whatever the case, I think the information still applies: it has a couple of cameras and 'sees' the terrain ahead, then works out what route to take to get to a given place. So as to avoid boulders etc that is couldn't get over.

Better than a woman driver.

It basically landed itself because it isn't possible to control that sort of procedure from Earth, but they'll give it instructions from now on.

I would suspect they are able to send it geo coordinates to tell it where to go

Once it's there they can tell it to kick off a pre programmed procedure

But nothing can be done in real time

Terrain Relative Navigation, apparently. The fucker was smart enough to sort itself out. Bit like when you're bladdered but still find a way home.

Would probably have made more sense if I'd replied to Rudy

Oh I know it can’t be done in real time I’ve seen The Martian 😁 but I didn’t know if it was controlled by NASA giving it instructions on where to go frequently, or it was left to its own devices because it was programmed that way and it would just be collecting data

A bit like that bird in wall-e

@gonzo your lads got the nasa app?

Got it yesterday in the hope of spotting the ISS with the clear skies we’ve been having

I was like a little kid this morning when  I had notifications from NASA 😂

Bits of a Fireball landed north of Cheltenham on Sunday. (Steve Zodiac RIP?)

Sounds like a big 'un, anyone breaking Covid rules to go and hunt for the bits of iron stone? I read it was 1991 when one like this last came down near Peterborough.

Looks like SN10 might be launching tonight for any Space nerds interested in watching live launches.

UPDATE: Aborted after engines fired. New estimated launch time ~22:50

Looks like it should be going in the next half an hour or so. Worth tuning in just to see the R.U.D (Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly) when it fails landing again. Worth it even more if it's successful...

If it doesn't go in the next hour, it's not going tonight.

Has it been binned?

Not yet. They've got another hour in the launch window, and it looks like they're prepping to go before it closes. Nobody knows though.

Edit: They're now carrying out the tri-vent, which means we're very close to launch!
