Tour De France In Yorkshire

I can't believe after spending all year telling the Lycra crew near me to not cycle in pairs and 3s and to learn some road manners I'm even typing this, but I've agreed to go and watch this.

Apparently it'll be an amazing spectacle.

Anyone else going?

I just don't get this? You see a load of bikes go past once and that's it, thanks for coming?

At least most of it will be free to watch, apart from the start at York racecourse which sold out yonks ago, unlike formula one which I guess isn't cheap to get into

I shall be in Knaresborough when it goes past

I don't get it either

I was out running yesterday and after running up Old Kiln Lane i turned and started to run down it when a fat lad came passed me on his bike "free wheeling" and i thought "and that's why you're a fat cunt what's the point in that you lazy bastard"

Bit like the Olympic torch relay, won't see much but it is massive 'event'.

It goes right past on of the Yorkshires a Whites house and they are having a do, only problem is getting there cos all the roads are closed.

Myself and Mr Alibob are going. I hope I get some pretty shoes out of it - cycling isn't my thing.

I was planning to go and watch it where it comes down from Holmes Moss on to the Woodhead Pass but after doing an interweb search it seems that they are making it as hard as possible to get anywhere near to it when driving.

They are closing roads and putting parking restrictions in place in Glossop and that's about 4 miles away from where I want to watch.

I think the idea is you walk for an hour, wait for an hour as excitement mounts as you count the poilce outriders.

Then maybe a bunch of 3 or 4 come past 2 minutes clear of a bunch of 160 including all the big names, then a few stragglers come in. Then you walk 4 miles back to your car.

My cousin (wheelchair bound and aged 79 at the time) got a front row position in Skipton in good time. Then at the last minute hoards came out and pushed in front so she could just see the flame but not the carrier.

Where I am planning to watch is at the bottom of a bloody big hill with a tight hairpin turn at the bottom. I would like to go to the top of Holme Moss bug I'm not walking all the way up.

Apart from the riders the promotion caravan comes though a couple of hours before with sponsors vehicles and entertainment.

Tour de France going through Glossop sums it up

Pedal harder!

It doesn't go through Glossop. The local council were offered the TDF but turned it down as it wouldn't do anything to the town. Apart from 40k visitors using local businesses I can't see any benefits either.

I know Glossop well as my brother lives in the centre. It's fucking gridlocked all the time anyway with folk from the middle of nowhere heading to Tesco. There's fuck all else to do there. It couldn't cope if 400 people turned up.
