Smiley
Is it just me that has to work double-day shifts in order to have the odd day off? Got 3 days holiday in August.... I've a job on that would normally need 6 working weeks to complete. I've got 25 days including weekends to hit the deadline. And I need 5 days out of the office during that time. Client ain't budging on the deadline. Oh, and to buggery that there's a Bank Holiday amongst all of that! Whenever I want a day off, I usually end up working 16 hours the days before to allow for it... so in theory its not a day off at all! Makes me wonder sometimes. Own boss vs slave to the clients. ex_midlandwhite
Think that is the same in many jobs where you aren't self employed too. Certainly in my old job if you had a week off you would essentially do your work for that week off in the week before and then pick up all the stuff that came in on your week off when you are back. anewman
I can never seem to find the time for a holiday, always a big rush to get jobs finished and you try and budget a few days off here and there but there's always some fuckin hold up which you lose time and money with so then you have to make up them losses by putting in extra hours elsewhere. Ten years time I'm stopping it, selling up and moving out of this immigrant infested shithole
BOWTUN BAKED
Nightmare. If I don't book something well in advance, I don't get holidays. I've blocked a week off September, that'll be my first full week off work in 19 months. Problem with self employed, if the works there you take it, there'll be times when it might not be there, that's when you take Holidays. At least that's how it works for me. gonzo
I could only have 1 day paternity Day off. Only days off bar weekends in 10 months have been Xmas day and Boxing Day. Oh and a day when I smashed my face in falling off my bike. ....but you take your choice. When you opt for self employed you know what your getting into so can hardly moan. There's plenty of other benifits.

Andydee
Most people think of self employed as individuals or small numbers of personnel. Reckon the key is getting to a size where you have a 'safe pair of hands' to cover leave if the business can't stop, which let's face it most can't. Either that or as Smiffs says go on strike. Smiffs
That's what happens when you get commies thinking that someone earning a decent wage and already tipping half of it into a pot for folk to piss up the wall as they see fit, should pay even more. It's swallows up initiative risk intelligence investment ambition and entrepreneurial effort, and spits out civil servants.

Again it's political movement to appease the masses because as a strategy does it improve the coffers overall? Does it fuck. Especially of it pushes people and business off these shores

Under the current regime folk are penalised for bettering themselves, with the establishment seemingly forgetful of the amount of tax paid in getting to that rate of pay in the first place. Like you hint at in your post,my pal had the choice of a job here with a wapping salary super taxed to fuck,or take his services to a foreign outfit. If your earning just below the super tax threshold, what incentive is there to better yourself without trying to pull as fast one??
