Moderators Casino Posted January 11, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 11, 2015 The 20% should be viewed in context of the rate of inflation at that time. granted thatcher was PM from 79-

RoadRunnerFan
So according to Cas's graph GDP per head was slightly lower when she left office than when she came in. Communities were destroyed for no overall gain?
Whites man
So according to Cas's graph GDP per head was slightly lower when she left office than when she came in. Communities were destroyed for no overall gain? You are not reading the graph correctly, it shows yearly increase from 1981 to 1990. It is not plotting total GDP but the increase/decrease on the previous year.

RoadRunnerFan
Fair play Whites Man I get it now. I'd like to see the same graph by region mind. No agenda Spider, I rarely if ever express an opinion on politics on here
TheWanderer1958
In the Falklands today. Have a good one! Bit ironic that she is hailed as a hero for getting back The Falklands when it was partly her policies that lead to the Argies invading in the first place....... She also destroyed British manufacturing industry which was fucking stupid..... But hey ho she posed around with a Union Flag whilst not giving a fuck about society or community so she must be alreet........

wovlad
She destroyed lives and communities, selling off the crown jewels ( Nationalised Industries ) more to line her and her cronies pockets while tryng to kill off trade unions in the process. The Hillsoboro cover up I'm pretty sure the driving force behind that would have been Thatcher. As for her greatest hour The Falklands, would you praise a landlord who booted out squatters if you knew she'd left the house unguarded with the windows and doors wide open in the first place. Needed a war and basically invited a the Argies to invade. The fact she was booted out of office by her own party hurt her to the core to,

Boby Brno
Really? Let's start a list.............. Engineering. I started in Engineering in 1971 and came out in 1999. It was declining from the day I started due to the unions and their restrictive practices. When I left Hick's in 1999, they were transferring the manufacturing to the Czech Republic where good Engineers were on 80p an hour and multi skilled. That had been going on for years in many manufacturing industries. You cannot blame one person for the inevitable economic consequences of the global economy. Boby Brno
Its more complex than just globalisation diver. How did Ze German manufacturing industry manage avoid the same fate as ours? Due to my job, I visited German engineering factories and one word, unions. They had them of course but they were not as militant and were quite happy and proud to multi task. The phrase 'one man, one job' does not exist in the German language.
Guest
Its more complex than just globalisation diver. How did Ze German manufacturing industry manage avoid the same fate as ours? Our manufacturing industry was in an inefficient mess It wouldn't survive without state aid, and didn't I know it is more complex, but to blame Maggie isn't correct. This country was in a mess, with the Unions a significant cause. She had the balls to take them on and the country has been the winner. My only regret is that she didn't reform the last bastions of socialism, which is costing us dearly
Site Supporter fatolive Posted January 11, 2015 Site Supporter Share Posted January 11, 2015 Wasn't she accused of covering up peado politicians? After she was dead granted so not able to defend it and maybe the fact it was a headline and no more came of it means it was shit, but sure there was an accusation she brushed it under the carpet
