This arose because the early computer programming jobs depended much more on mathematical dexterity than they have more recently. But a school pupil in the 1970s with 3 strong subjects was unlikely to have the best teaching in Maths, and so was less likely to regard that as their top subject. There has been a downward spiral until recent years, and throwing money at the problem. And it's 25k for a first class honours or a PhD, 20k for a 2:1 ir a Masters, 15k for a 2:2, or 9k for a relevant degree plus Grade A or B at Maths 'A' Level. The best teacher may have a second and a BUCS cup-winners medal. But increasing the competitiveness of teaching as an option as opposed to financial posts may work overall. I think tackling his views and debating them isn't a bad thing. My irritation comes with the fact that it is too late to register to vote. Yeah except that Martin Wolf in today's FT doesn't wholly agree, amongst many more, and I suspect he has a basic grasp of economics. He instead takes an honest and balanced view. If you reading the Guardian without an accompanying huge pinch of salt then, well, you won't exactly be getting a fair and balanced representation of views. Why is a household budget a bad analogy for the economy? Very few analogies are perfect. Why is that one so wrong?
