Young Driver Car Insurance?

Recommended Posts

My 17 year old daughter has passed her driving test today.   I've spent hours trying to get a sensible price for her insurance. The cheapest quote is £1330.00. If we pay monthly, the total cost is just under £1600 for the year.

I want my daughter to have the insurance in her own name, with me and the Mrs as named drivers.

The car is a Toyota Yaris 1.3 petrol 2007 plate, it will be fitted with a black box to help with the premiums.

Can anybody recommend any decent insurance companies? I've tried all the comparison websites, but I know not all insurance companies are on them.

Any advice would be much appreciated, as I've got a bloody headache now!

If you can, try with just you or your Mrs as named drivers rather than both of you.

Also try Google compare, I saved 35 quid for the same company when I got my insurance sorted last month just by goin through Google.

The 1.3 engine won't help when it comes to quotes.

It's not as big an issue as it used to be as insurers rate on shit loads more stuff these days. My first car last year the cheapest quote I had by a mile was for a 1.8 focus (at 29yo). Loads of new drivers crash 1.0l corsas, not many crash 1.8 focuseses... Unless you are me.

Might be too late for this quote now but get her on the electoral roll. Most insurers do soft credit checks, if you are traceable you are a better risk.

I'm going to go with Mypolicy, £1300+ seems pretty good, the car is pretty nippy, with it being a 1.3 (85bhp) so not too bad I guess and I've decided to pay for the insurance in one go, Ouch! Mypolicy would have charged us around £300 in interest extra if we paid monthly, robbing sods!

The best quotes we've had are by :-

1)Mypolicy £1300+

2)Ingenie £1700+

3)Direct Line £1800+

Just hope my daughter is careful and she doesn't have a bump in her first 12 months, if she doesn't, I'm pretty hopeful that her premiums will reduce quite a lot next year, she's already moaning about the famous "black box!"

Right, parking the car on the street rather than the garage has knocked 250 quid off and done away with the black box.

What the actual fuck, how do they add this shit up?

Loads of people say they Park in the garage when they probably don't. Same with car under a grand and lowest miles possible. People do it to get the cheapest price even though it's not correct.

As a result there are more claims than expected for people with this risk profile therefore prices reflect this.
