My experience was 76 til 80. Was a cracking night out then. Town was buzzing fri sat & sun from 12:00 til 02:00. Catered for everyone. Swan corner wasn't that bad, good sport imo. Chippys were magic once the pubs closed. Thing is everyone tipped out at 7pm sharp, no fuckin need for pre drinks crap!

see im old school

out at 7 power drink till last orders at 11

Not seen the Crown & Flicknife mentioned!!! Great bar/pub/club.

Thursday night karaoke - followed by a real struggle on Friday morning at work until we finished at lunch time and spilled into the Alma or Clarence.

Whatever happened to finishing early on a Friday?

No mention of Swannies?

I arranged the opening and running of Swannies before moving to the Wirral

I knew a coupla lads on the door at Swannies from the early days,Johnny Brads & Big Joe Hubbard (Rip) The latter lost an ear in an incident in there iirc.

Bouncers were firm but fair in those days and drugs were almost none existent in town, although eager trollops & cheap booze were plentiful.

Whilst we're on the subject of ears & The Swan, a mate of mine (Roy Hartles son) got his ear sliced off in The Swan by an Everton fan with a glass before our League cup semi against them in 1977, luckily enough the Docs managed to stitch it back on.
