Painting New(Ish) Plaster

Recommended Posts

A little while ago, we had the bathroom done up.

The chap told us to apply dilute PVA to the new plaster before painting.

We did this and gradually the paint started to blister above the shower then go back upon drying. Now got really bad and mouldy.

A chap that works with the mrs told her we shouldn't have used the PVA.

Currently stripping the paint off, its barely stuck.

What should I do to prevent reoccurring?

Been trying a bloon for two weeks but too wet to stick

Remove old paint if you can then give it a light sanding, mix MATT emulsion 50/50 with water and paint on. This is called a mist coat and will stop the suction in the plaster before a proper coat of paint. Hope that helps.

Whoever told you to PVA it, knowing you wanted to paint the walls wants there balls nailing to a fence, esp if they where in the "trade"

Little Whitt or Henry Lloyd will best advise, though LW's advice may involve a gimp mask, you, your wife and a tub swarfega...
