madthatter
Climate change agreement, Iran nuclear deal, Israel's capital etc... Not endearing himself to other places- will it come back to haunt him? My question (on foreign affairs) would be, a bit like Donald himself - What are they doing for America? His lack of thought for the environment is worrying to me but he's not alone. We could all do so much more but £ $ or whatever leads the way. I think we'll go the way Roger Waters sang about and 'Amuse Ourselves to Death' . . . almost weekend
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 4, 2018 Site Supporter Share Posted January 4, 2018 On foreign affairs; surely questioning the Iran nuclear deal; whilst everyone else seems happy, on the face of it seems potentially injurious for his nation. As does pissing off shed loads of Palestinians. As for climate change and pollution etc; there's an opportunity for leading nations to take the lead. New attitudes and technologies will prevail eventually, so may as well be at the forefront. Interestingly the BBC are doing reports on the ten rivers that produce 95% of the world's oceans' plastic pollutants. Did the Ganges last night- what a fuckin shit hole. I saw that about the rivers and whilst the US is bad 'developing nations' like India/China are fcuking terrible and no amount of global pressure will prevent them from doing it, sadly. Economic stability and equality is the only way can all move forwards in a 'green' way imo. That is without forcing other nations to tow the line at the expense of their economies and very possibly at the benefit of ours/west. I am undecided about Iran and nuclear arms but think it's wise to be cautious. Palestine are never happy and them and the Israelis want their heads bangin' gether! I'd agree about economic stability, but I'd prefer to put a levy on products from some of these polluting countries, unless they start to clean up their act. But invest in their countries with cleaner technologies etc. As it is many industries have declined as the east has come to the world trade party, having now realised the error of some of our industrial ways it would be wrong not to share our latest knowledge and just let them carry on- just because we did stuff that way previously. Agree with the Israel Palestine issue- help them where ever possible but a desire has to come from them.

madthatter
We all know the Royal Family did but no way did. Churchill. Overtly, no. I've read that as he was vehemently opposed to communism, which had the very real potential to spread into Germany, he, like many European elite types, initially encouraged the growth of the Nazi party as a counter to this. All got a bit out of hand though . . . I rate Churchill highly btw as a leader. My point was just that because someone doesn't go wetting the bed at the mere mention of the word doesn't necessarily make them one.

I'm on the same page but just don't see it happening. Using India's production of plastic bottles as an e.g. - they create tons of plastic waste but most of it is sold within the country. I don't see what any external power(s) can do about it and can't imagine any Indians seeing a cut in profits as a plus. As an aside I see coffee cups are going the same way as plastic bags . . . We should all be working together on this issue but, and I'll quote R4s thought for the day on this, 'The Midas touch' is what is so wrong in the world today and prevents any meaningful co-operation. Not sure if it could be believed though. So much shit flying round, wouldn't trust any of them. He'll have a rather unfortunate accident soon mww Na, not Donald's style that, he'll probably find himself on a plane to Russia and be eating scouse in a Goulag by the end of the week. Salford Trotter
Loads of stuff going on tonight on Jeff Sessions with two high-ranking officials who pressured him against recusal http://edition.cnn.com/2018/01/04/politics/donald-trump-robert-mueller-jeff-sessions/index.html It appears Mueller is closing in and coupled with the Michael Wolff book this week it doesn't look too rosy for our Donald Duck

Heard over Xmas that Russian spy ships had been escorted by the British navy out of our waters on a concerningly frequent basis. I have no idea what they are up to but up to something they clearly are - how Trump fits in with all this I'm not sure but my guess is that he was used by Russia rather than colluded with them. They seem sneaky as fook . . .
