tomski
Exactly this. And it's why I will never not get a season ticket. The shit hits the fan when you miss a home game and actually enjoy your day better pottering about eating bacon sandwiches and watching jeff stelling in your comfys in front of the fire and going for a jar to watch the results come in. The prospect of fucking about ferrying kids about to in laws and driving up and down the motorway to a desolate macron isn't exactly appealing anymore once you've tasted the alternative. So in summary Tomski....don't give up! Haha Aye. Same fear drives me on too. As soon as the FPO had me around every Saturday, I wouldn't be allowed back!!! seasoned Traveller
I've stopped, but if they were at home on Boxing Day I would have gone. The worrying thing though both my step lads have stopped aged 23 and 19, they don't enjoy it anymore, which I find strange, their choice though. Mounts Kipper
I suppose those who have left the party are better of leaving no point sitting there moaning and groaning the atmosphere been ok with the 12-13000 who are still going. Nothing stays the same everything moves on.
Sweep
I suppose those who have left the party are better of leaving no point sitting there moaning and groaning the atmosphere been ok with the 12-13000 who are still going. Nothing stays the same everything moves on. I think the big worry is that the 12K~13K number will start to dwindle, especially if start to drop through the divisions. I used to go all the time, home and away in my younger days - these days it's pretty hard to justify a near 400 mile round trip for some of the product that is served up.............having said that, when I do attend games these days I generally have a great time, but that tends to be because I'm spending time with decent folk and having a good beer up. I'd never give up completely, but I've handed my "SuperFan" membership in a long time ago and I'm not sure I'll be applying for it again anytime soon
Colonel Mustard
'Habit' is definitely the word. Never a 'super fan' but like many others I stood religiously on the Burnden terraces throughout my teenage years, along with some regular local away days, and then moved to the Reebok, got my ST each year, etc., etc. Never thought I wouldn't go - whatever happened in my work/home life, going to the match was non-negotiable. And then my dad stopped going, and mates I'd stood/sat with for years got families and new priorities, and then a couple of seasons ago found myself going alone, which wasn't anywhere near as much fun (Yes, I'm *that guy* trying to wangle a conversation with you ). And now I go more often than not, and primarily when I can coerce someone to coming along to share the pain, but many Saturdays I find myself listening to the wireless and 'supporting' from afar. It wouldn't take much to get me back religiously - but definitely the social ritual and sharing the experience with mates plays a massive part in the draw... Take Hunt Off
What puzzles me is of the original gang that bought ST'S for the Reebok there is just me left although they all still talk about the team / manager / tactics etc in the pub & obviously all know what's wrong with the team even though they never go.I couldn't be that hypocritical & they get told when they start spouting about cardboard cutout reds. There's 3 of the lads left still go from the 8 originals who were there at Burnden, same as you they still love and talk about the club, strange it's like some dark force sapping our support base, think the club lost connection with fans the same happened after we were in premier league in the late 70s. Five out of an original dozen or more for me. I'm always surprised that one renews, and one day, maybe next season if we go down he won't. As Gonzo said once you find an alternative that (at the moment) suits you better your time your own. You soon get out of the habit. You've got to remember that everything is a big circle, some are bigger than others, but we'll be back. Do you really want to be a future JCL ? Eavesy
Is there really much of a difference between championship and league 1? Prem to championship yes you lose then big teams but can't see much difference between championship and league 1?
bwfcfan5
From about 1992 to 2006/7 time it felt like the club was on a journey. Every game was important. Some seasons we did poorly but the overall feel was that we were on a great roller coaster ride. Since then I think the feeling has been more of a club going through the motions and drifting. For me that is why fans have drifted away. We need something to kickstart the club and get people feeling like there is a direction and purpose and some sort of ambition. Even if that ambition is just producing more home grown players.
onlyoneawalker
The macron is shit but I still always enjoy watching a live game of football involving BWFC it's been wank for years now but I usually find something to have a chat about after with the lads in boozer or my dad - I'd feel like I was cheating the town I'm very proud of and my own heritage if I just didn't go when I could but it's each to their own I've no hard feelings against those who choose to do something else
onlyoneawalker
Also I'd much much rather watch us beat Colchester 2-0 at home with the club on the way up than get twatted by some big prem team week in week out and theirs a damn site more chance of the former happening than the latter so may'swell hang in
Sweep
than get twatted by some big prem team week in week out See, when times were good, we were holding our own against the "big teams" and we always felt we could get something out of a game against them, towards the end of our tenure in the PL, we all pretty much knew we were writing off those games as a bad job as soon as the fixtures were announced - I'm not sure why or how this happened
