It was the Men's World Road Race Championship today in Imola, Italy.

Approx 260km, 9 laps, 6.5 hours with the start/finish line on the GP track.

Won by Julian Alaphilippe of France after a breakaway over a climb on the final lap!

Made up for him as his father passed away in June.

He's a great rider, proper entertaining, brilliant character.

The Giro starts on Saturday.....

Aye, saw that. Chloe Dygart, she was well on the way to winning the Time Trial before coming a cropper. Had an operation for deep cut in her leg, but should be okay. She's good on the track as well.

It was an amazing series of wobbles beforehand, like she was riding with a buckled wheel.

Chapeau Julian!! Couldn't happen to a nicer fella. Broken hearted over the death of his father, who was an orchestra (orchestral?), conductor. His other half is fit as fuck also.........Champion du Monde

Any brits?

Geraint Thomas

Simon Yates

James Knox

Alex Dowsett

First 2 for GC, Knox for possible top 10, Dowsett will target TTs/domestique duties.

It's live on Eurosport player, with highlights at 7pm on Quest. Some stunning scenery in Italy....

Also, to my shame didn't follow this years tdf

Was it deemed a successful one for Yates?

He ended up in the yellow jersey which wasn't what he really wanted. Pre-race he said he was just targeting stage wins . Once he ended up so high in GC that wasn't going to happen. Can't sniff at top 10 in TdF though!

Possible front wheel puncture?

I reckon you're bob on. Just watched it again, with replay, and something definitely "gives" as she is going round the bend. A small but definite lurch, then the wobbles start and it uncontrollable from that point on.

Yesterday's stage in the Giro was immense! The work that Dennis put in for TGH was unbelievable!

For anyone who doesn't "get" cycling then yesterday was a classic!

Today's flat (250km?) stage has been shortened to about 120km due to rider protest, and the weather.

This is definitely good news for the GC contenders.

Tomorrow's stage to Siestre should give a bit more of a shake up in the GC as it's one for the climbers. TGH has to get time into Wilco Kelderman tomorrow, as the final stage on Sunday is a Time Trial and WK Is probably a better TTer than TGH.

In the 1st TT over a similar distance WK was about 25 seconds faster than TGH.

It all makes for an interesting last few days - cmon TGH!

I can't see anyone other than Roglic winning the Vuelta, unless he has a crash, etc. The others are competing for a podium and stage wins.

Roglic couldn't put his rain jacket on!! So he got left behind by the peloton. Needed his team to get him back, which took out a lot of energy.

He's 30 seconds behind Carapaz, with a ITT to come next Tuesday over 33.7km. Unless he falls off he'll make up that time, and more on his rivals.

I like him, he's a racer. But I'd prefer a Brit or a UK team to win if possible.
