Transfer Gossip

There was an interview with Kevin Keegan on Radio 4 on Saturday morning.

He said his scoring record in every season with Liverpool in the top tier was better than in his 3 seasons with Scunny in the fourth. He reckoned that when Liverpool players saw him running into space they could give an accurate and weighted pass, whereas before, even if players did see his run they could not execute the pass most of the time.

Connor Hall is considered to be the best current prospect but he was completely out of his depth when he played at Leeds, & as has been said, he can't get a game at Accrington now.

It's not that the academy players are having their progress blocked by older players, they're just not good enough yet & need to go out on loan to lower league clubs to try & develop & gain experience. The jump straight from u23's to championship is too big for most.

It's about the here and now

Develop a player to be good enough next season and every chance they'll be doing it in the third tier

As for Ireland, I'd not be sleeping well if I was oztumer

I think Oztumer can rest easy for now, he's scored more goals in the last 4 seasons that Ireland has played games

Aye, 73 league starts this decade, Ireland.

It might be a masterstroke but I reckon a low risk failure is far more likely.

aye, this season's Kirchhoff maybe

no harm in trying, but, no great expectations either

A good point.

It may well be that our youngsters aren't good enough, it may also be possible that given a chance with so called better players they would grow.

As it stands it seems we're not going to find out.

I do wonder how long we can keep fire fighting with all these older players though.

There is an argument he left us with zero selable assets leading to an unsustainable  business model.

We sold Anelka for a club record fee.

I take your point - but you cannot manufacture top footballers in an academy/u23 setup if they aren't there. Most clubs bring through one every few years into some form of first team football.

We're at the point where we certainly cannot be worrying too much about developing young players unless we can do so without risking first team results.

There's also an argument he left us with more saleable assets than any manager in Bolton's history.Anelka, Nolan, Diouf, Al Habsi and Faye were sold for a combined £28 million and then there was Jussi, Ben Haim and Kevin Davies all of whom had a few years left in them.

I think every team in the country could make that argument. The financial impact of league placings means young players just don't get a run of games to test their worth.

Connor Hall has been written off by some on the basis of 45 minutes in a league cup match at Leeds.

Another winger, just what we need.

Ameobi is hit & miss, & often injured......Buckley & Noone aren't really traditional wingers & seem to be more effective as subs........& Wildshutt has been hopeless.

So yes, we do need a winger. & this one seems to be at an age & cost that we should be looking at.
