Since when has Iles had anything but a poor relationship with the club? Genuine question as I’ve always found him to be very detached from the club under the various regimes. Do you see it differently?

Yes. Aside from the brief spell when he was banned from the ground by Ken Anderson, what examples do you have of his "poor relationship with the club"?

Think he’s had a couple of unprofessional digs at FV

Think with football journos is it works both ways.
don’t criticise the regime ever, report well, build a good relationship and they will feed you the leaks and exclusives

I know a few good journos and they have built that trust and relationship up for years

I prefer to try and find examples of when somebody has demonstrated a close relationship with the club. That’s the only way of measuring it in reality . we can all say we have a close relationship or are ITK but in reality we don’t and our content in the main proves it , the lack of content from Iles tells me he doesn’t have a close relationship  , but it’s subjective I guess

I can’t think of anything in recent times that Iles has produced as a piece of journalism that would lead me to believe he has anything but an arms length relationship and is fairly detached. Maybe he’s just doing a very good job of portraying this as an illusion. But maybe he’s not.

Like most Iles has had a tough time of it in recent seasons in extremely trying circumstances

Am sure he has still got a couple of good contacts within the club , and am sure as the good times return the club will look to rebuild the relationship

Folks forget the Bolton News still represents the main source of Information for a fair percentage of our fan base whether they like it or not

Some of the comments the very mention of his name on this board generate are frankly pathetic  - talk about playing to an audience

Iles, by his own admission, fell out of favour with PG

He had pops at FV while the takeover was going through and he's mentioned a couple of times that he doesn't get the attention he would like from them

I wonder why that is

The BEN should be our go to for info, but it isn't

A big part of that is that their reporter has burned too many bridges

I can't see young Gartside having a massively different opinion than his dad

He was a fucking disgrace at Wycombe. A team full of inexperienced lads throwing themselves about and he was just ambling around.

I so wanted it to work for him at ours, but he can fuck right off.

100% this with big fucking ding dong bells

I'll just add, I don't think he was helped by that clown Bonnar

He could reasonably have expected some example setting and guidance from above

I'm pretty sure it never came

He’s a shocker. Some of his drunken rants given the job he had were mind boggling. Amazed he lasted as long. But then again the BEN is about as low down the journalistic food chain as you can get nowadays.

in saying that I read it daily as I like to see what’s going on back in little Tashkent

Agreed - that performance was shameful. The fact that he was subbed off in place of some of the younger lads who were breathing through their arses speaks volumes. Massive thunderous ubercunt.

Although because I'm a man of no moral fibre I'd have him back tomorrow if he was good and played for cheap! 😂😂😂

I realise my opinion might have been different if I'd been at Wycombe and witnessed him not trying.  What I would say is its idealistic to think a seasoned pro who's completely pissed off with his employers and is desperate for a move is going to run around enthusiastically with the same attitude as someone playing his first, and possibly last, football league game.  Its like if I was told I could play at Wimbledon for no pay, I'd be like a mad man running around for every point whilst losing 6-0 6-0 but if you asked Federer to turn up and play for nothing he's not likely to be getting a sweat on and risking injury for his next tournament.  Just human nature, looking after no 1, thankfully 99% of footballers arent put in the same situation as our's have been so we never find out if they are tossers who dont care about their clubs.

I dont think the BN will ever be the go to site for information for large swathes of our support - the world has moved on

It does however remain the go to for a fair percentage of our support

Without going over PG and ancient history , and focusing on the recent past , I dont see anything wrong with having a pop at FV whilst the takeover was ongoing. I would rather we have a journalist asking challenging and difficult questions of our owners on a regular basis  - it ought to go with the territory .

Maybe the relationship FV are perceived to currently have had with Iles is as much to do with circumstance - in that the way the takeover happened and events unravelled quickly thereafter , as it has with personality.

There has been little positive news to put in the public domain for a long time. its easy to say that must be down to a poor relationship - it might be mainly down to FV simply wanting to sit tight and say as little as possible until this season is over.

I reckon with "Brand Evatt" being pushed in the next few months you will see as part and parcel of that a re-engaging with local media , whether it be Iles , the next Frank Booth or the next Gordon Sharrock , and I remain  hopeful young Gartside is man enough to form his own views.

Hear hear.  Absolute joke the lack of respect Iles gets on here, knowing he can't come on and defend himself, such an easy target and especially as there's nothing to compare him with.  I've not heard much speculation about which journalist the BN should poach to replace him.

Agreed on Bonnar.  Has some wierd rants on twitter and used to in his BEN column as well.  In comparison Iles is a miles better journalist, I'd happily read opinion pieces and analysis from Iles but I never saw that journalistic ability in Bonnar.  The anti-Man U/Liverpool stuff he puts on twitter is embarrassing.  I started following him coz he drops in info on local cricket that can be of interest to me, and he can seem quite normal when talking cricket, but as soon as its football his guard drops and he's a bit odd.

Bonnar & Iles fell out with Phil Gartside.
Iles backed the wrong horse in the Anderson v Holdsworth fiasco and further went on to have a very public spat with KA.
Iles then seemingly was anti-FV in some pre-takeover comments

He doesn't help himself, sadly. I remember chatting to him pre-season at Athy and I said to him that if he continued to antagonise KA, he'd end up being banned from the club and he basically said he didn't care.

Iles gets a bit of banter on here and on Twitter and gives some back on Twitter. He's hardly being crucified.

Careful not to rake over old ground here because this clown has been discussed to death. But not caring about getting banned from the one place that pretty much gives you the direct tools to do your one and only job is stupidity bordering on complete unprofessionalism. All for a few likes on social media from grown men who wear replica football shirts

I keep forgetting weve got them next season. I'm sure there will be a big retrospective piece done on all that, where are those who went down there now etc

No chance I’m having any of that food or drink for weirdos, if they’ve taken stuff out that I like, then I don’t trust the crap they’ve replaced it with
