I get what you’re saying but I’d stick up for some ‘journeyman’. A model pro doesn’t become a money grabbing unambitious shit player purely by getting older and a yard slower. O’Grady was a credit to us last year, seemed to be a top pro on and off the pitch and could still score, when (occasionally) played in the right position. Hobbs the same, cant fault his attitude and I’d suggest these young lads would benefit from having his influence around the place. Add to that list - Gary O’Neill, Daryl Murphy, Lowe, Bridcutt. Genuine professionals. We currently have one proven EFL striker, if that’s how it’s going to stay I’d have O’Grady or Murphy as back up striker in Div 2 all day long.

I’d only have Bridcutt back out of that lot.

same here. (in right position of course). Johnny rightly or wrongly we are going in a different direction now. you say its chucking the baby out with the bathwater i say its a long needed clearing of the decks.

on a similar theme see Spearing has gone Trampmere - Good

I’d have every single one of them. If you didn’t rate O’Neill for us you were in a minority. And I do feel our squad is crying out for a bit of experience and an influence for young players to learn from on the pitch and off it.

And how did we get on when said players played for us?

So they must all be crap then. Nothing to do with being played out of position or being at a club under embargo with a huge points deduction, a load of kids in the team, throwing the first 6 games, having no pre season and Keith Hill as manager.

But what is your point? I'll trust Evatt right now over you as to who he brings in.

The player's you mention got us related twice.

mr rotten, youve missed the biggest factor imo

It was a division above against better teams than us

Its like us getting excited about all these new signings, suggesting Evatt is doing something groundbreaking, or at least differently than the last few years

Barring a couple, we are easily the biggest show in town for the players we have gone in for

Previously we have been feeding off last minute scraps

I do get the need for a new broom and all that. And I don’t generally mean we should sign any ex BW player, my point was to stick up for great pro’s/decent players that just happen to be 30+. There are loads of them throughout the leagues and if I was one I’d be irritated by the over emphasis on signing “young, hungry” players. Why not “old hungry players”, like Doyle, or Morais or ALF.

Evatt is definitely doing something groundbreaking and different for me. Ok we are a big fish but we are going for a type of player to fill a particular role. Then theres the talk of a different style of play etc, and it is exciting because it feels so different-

now i know weve not seen it in action yet but we can dream

Yep, O’Neill did great in most of the games he played. But he’s not kicked a ball for over 12 months. The others were pedestrian and won’t suit Evatt’s style of play.

Let’s move forward not sideways.

completely agree

Suppose my point is we are trying to attract players good enough for division 4 where we can comfortably compete with most on wages and we are the big club

Its not really fair to compare with what recent managers have had at their disposal

Even now, theres seemingly a load of punts on potential

So to beef that up with some experience does make good sense

We have one player in our squad over 30....Doyle. Why because Evatt needs athletes to play to his style.

I think we need a leader Bridcutt type of player and another Forward...One thing anyone else coming in will need to be is comfortable with the ball and able to run 10km every game

Behind Phoenix and Evatt all the way. If there’s one disappointing factor in this for me though, it’s that Emmanuel wasn’t kept on.

For me he’d be absolutely perfect as a right wing back. Not a great defender, but got up and down and great going forward. Sad to see him go really.

Just remember this post

Im going to remind you of it  :)

FFS, O’Grady, Lowe, Hobbs etc

They’d be gassing after 20 minutes.

We’ve got arguably the 3 most influential players in the division with Doyle, Crawford, Sarcevic.

If that doesn’t work, EVATT OUT!

I think athletes come in all ages, Gary Speed and ALF would compete with most players in their position that we have had irrespective of age.

Anyway we can all agree and enjoy the fact that it will be a long time before we see the likes of Chris Taylor, Lewis Buxton, Madine, Trotter, Thorpe and Andrews in a BW shirt.

Agreed, really enjoyed watching him play because of his up and at ‘em, attack minded attitude. I get the impression our new right back is a bit more ‘safe’.

Completely disagree. Hobbs would stroll div 2, wouldn’t have to break sweat in most games. Lowe is as fit as anyone, another that will find this league easily, he will be making tackles from 1st minute to last (but can’t shoot). O’Grady would be a good 2nd striker for last half hour if we aren’t winning, and I bet he puts more of a defensive shift in than a pure goal scorer like Doyle.

Dont want Doyle putting a defensive shift in...Corners conceded i want him on one side of the halfway line and another on the opposite side.

I would gamble our defence can stretch most teams on the counter attack.

When there goalie centre half has the ball i expect Doyle to just invite them onto our midfield or let them shank it long
