Decent Podcasts

Recommended Posts

Now that Colin Murray has gone from Talksport I've taken to downloading podcasts to listen to in the car (iPhone wanker)

Anyone got any recommendations for decent ones?

Quite like the Andrew Flintoff/Robbie Savage/Matthew Syed one but struggling to find any others that are good other than the odd decent episode

Seeing as I cannot stand anyone you have just listed I may not be the best person to offer advice on this but I would give Bob Mortimer a listen on athletico mince. He tells a good tale mostly about folllowing England and mostly made up. The bloke who does it with him walks a fine bellend line though.

Jules beat me to it.

Just googled Athletico Mince - I'll give that a go

Infinite Monkey Cage - that was one that I found very up and down - the odd really good episode but some absolute boring shitters

Desert Island Discs - yeah, but again some of them are tedious - I find the best are the unexpected ones - Nigel Owens, the gay Welsh rugby ref - fuck me - won't spoil it for anyone that wants to listen to it but the day that he walks out into the hills - real dust in the eye stuff

The Flintoff/Savage one surprised me - both regularly admit to their past failings (drunken buffoon and a wanker who deliberately wound up opposition supporters and players) - but Flintoff's battle with depression is worth a listen as is Savage's take on the behaviour of parents at kid's matches

Another vote for the mince here. Starts well and gets funnier - although I reckon Bob should just do it on its own.

If you like bonkers Americans then Dogman Encounters Radio is a good laugh.

On the flip side - if you enjoy science programmes - The Skeptics Guide to the Universe have been putting out brilliant weekly podcasts for the best part of a decade now.....

Ta all for the suggestions - any more are welcome - doing a lot of mileage at the moment (Merc wanker to add to iPhone wanker) and bored shitless with the radio

Will give all of them a go. TMGJ - couldn't find "Sorry I haven't a clue" on my phone - guessing I'll have to do it via my laptop?

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - if you're into minutely-detailed but easy-listenable history lectures delivered by a pure enthusiast. His WW2 series titled 'Blueprint for Armageddon' is particularly good, although it consists of 6 episodes and most of them are 4 hours long.

As said above, "Athletico Mince" is fantastic.

"Answer Me This" is a good one too.

As is "The Bugle" if you like satire and cricket jokes.

Seriously, Athletico Mince is all you need

There are currently 41 episodes which is around 32 hours worth.

You need to start from the beginning but it's absolutely fucking brilliant. Utter madness.

Edit: as a fellow merc/iphone wanker clocking up endless miles, this podcast (along with several decent playlists) is getting me through some suicidal traffic.

Edit edit: kiss the alderman kiss the alderman kiss the alderman

It was fucking fantastic when Dele Alli and Harry Kane did that secret handshake celebration thing the other week after scoring. Maybe Bob's stories about Spurs aren't entirely fictional....

The bit about Shaqiri drinking water from the urinals at the riverside stadium nearly cause me to crash..

I like the Guardian Football weekly one with James Richardson. Although I am a bedwetter.

I'll get slated for this but Scummy Mummies is good (its not what you think LW, so clam down)

Other one's I quite like:

Infinite Monkey Cage

My Dad Wrote A Porno

Adam Buxton

Kermode and Mayo film reviews

News Quiz on Radio 4
