Aye but the French allow us to do it there, they could push that back to our end meaning it’s our issue! It would save them a fortune policing it at the other end

No more Dublin agreement then means we can’t send them back to the EU

Why won't the Dublin agreement still apply to France when we leave? If they are still an EU country surely under the terms of the agreement they will be responsible for illegal migrants as long as they enter France first?

The Dublin agreement only kicks in once a refugee claims asylum

Think of a refugee landing in Italy unchecked then walking from Italy into France, no border force to check them at this stage

when they get to Calais’s they are faced with our border force which stops them from getting on a ferry to the UK

If our border force is moved from Calais to Dover (within French ability to do so) then an asylum seeker won’t be checked until they are already on UK soil. At which point we have to process them, we won’t be part of the EU or the Dublin agreement so can’t sent them back to Italy either

We could have bouncers on all cross-channel ferries to weed out these types then hurl them overboard into La Manche. The bouncers could be dressed as Beefeaters, to add a touch of pageantry to proceedings, having a couple of those Royal Bugler type folk with the big long trumpets tootle every freeloader's descent into the watery abyss would be another nice flourish.

In the case of the Eurostar, simply have the bouncers duff them up and sling them on a France bound train immediately upon arrival in Kent.

Aye so France won’t give a fuck about holding them in jungle camps.

Get yourself over lads it’s their problem not ours....

As brexit is going to mean the end of civilization in this country, no right minded immigrant is going to want to come here. They'll all be stopping in France and saying "oh Mr Macron can we stay here please?"

It wasn't so long back that Macron himself said that part of the issue was that the UK made it too easy for migrants to get in, hence the numbers trying to.

Aye no migrants will want to come here and seek a richer life as all the generations of our work shy benefit scroungers will all of a sudden remember Britain is great again and start grafting their balls off to save the economy like they did during the last depression.

or what about the French putting all these immigrants on a train and saying to the UK  your fucking problem, hence the border now being at Dover .... but no the French would do that ... would they ?

Could they actually do that though? Whenever I've left a Schengen country they always check my passport at the point of exit?

A broad explanation here...

https://inews.co.uk/news/long-reads/le-touquet-treaty-affects-refugees-calais/

France could pull out of the agreement at any time, not that it’s currently being considered

If you take the view of some Brexiteers that we should just tell the EU to fuck off and not pay a divorce bill then who knows what the response would be from the EU including France

it’s a possibility that checks would be carried out at our side

we could end up with worse border controls than we started with and that was a key pledge for vote leave

Good luck stopping em leaving the south to the north of ireland

I was looking more at the notion that was being voiced that France would purposely let a load of illegal immigrants cross the channel. The Irish border is a different ball game really and we will have to see how things pan out with any potential deal on that one.

Aye I’m sure there  are thousands of illegals going to take the more difficult but scenic route through Ireland and over to the UK.  No doubt they’ll be jumping on the containers that don a shamrock and leaving the ones with a Union Jack livery.

The EU website appears to state that nobody is allowed to leave Schengen without travel ID or a passport.

Not sure where it says that in your link?

I got this....

“When travelling to or from a non-Schengen country you must show a valid ID or passport.”

Which doesn’t really stipulate which side the checks have to occur, on the way out or the way in.

I’d guess that as our government pays them so much money each year to allow checks at their end it must be that way. Otherwise, why pay them anything? Why bother signing up to Le Touquet at all?

On the other hand the source you have given is the EU, when we leave we won’t have the right to veto and they can change the rules on border checks as they see fit

I’m just pointing out another reason why it’s begter to leave amicably rather than telling them to fuck off and not paying a penny (as has been suggested)

I'm guessing that 'the or or from' probably means both, I've never left any country without having to show my passport before boarding whatever method of transport applies.

I completely agree that an amicable agreement would be best but as the EU don't want to lose us they are going to play hard ball right to the end.

I believe a compromise will be found, probably involving some version of a more restrictive 'freedom' of movement and us handing over a subscription to some sort of customs union.

That's where its been headed from day one really.

Freedom of movement will definitely continue. It will just be called "visa free travel for EU nationals" and we'll just not bother checking them, like we don't bother to check them now

Paying for access to the customs union is fair enough, just depends how much it is I suppose.
