Just had a look and North based Cypriots get round the issue because their also classed as having dual nationality as Southern Cyprus is in the EU then it's all ok. Also the North it seems can trade freely with the south while being outside the EU and exempt from EU law. Seems that when it suits rules can be bent. How surprising. The border between north & south Cyprus was a nightmare for 20 years and people were shot for attempting to cross it. In Nicosia, streets still have sentry posts dividing the 2 countries. Not stropping, just providing facts.

Site Supporter Spider Posted October 18, 2018 Site Supporter Share Posted October 18, 2018 (edited) Today, anyone of us could travel unhindered across the border in NI After Brexit, it would look something like this, which seems like a right doddle.. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cyprus/safety-and-security This paragraph is particularly cheery: British and other foreign nationals who have entered Cyprus through the north (such as via Ercan airport) are considered by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to have entered Cyprus through an illegal port of entry. The Government of the Republic of Cyprus reserves the right to fine you for illegal entry if you cross into the south, or decline you entry into or exit from the Republic. He does. We're out next march. That was his gamble. Transition period irrelevant. Can't leave it too long as there'll be no bananas remember. What a surprise. Never saw that coming did I....oh....

kent_white
Can anybody remind me of what the original Cheese/banana bet was - and does the prospect of an extension to the deal alter it in any way?
