It's the permanence that seems to have upset some.

For me, I was happy to take it on trust, though can understand their concerns.

How can you put a timelimit on an insurance policy there explicitly until other such arrangements are possible? If you could time limit it, you'd not need it in the first place.

Both the UK and the EU agree (as was said by the PM yesterday) that the backstop is needed.

The problem was that it was left at the discretion of the EU.

I pointed out their issue with it about 100 pages back

Indeed. I'm just not convinced that when push comes to shove that cabinet etc won't bottle it and take take no deal off the table.

That would give the remainers power to vote against the WA forever. And the EU to be quite happy.

If they can't find a solution between them, I'd rather stick with what was offered than a corbynesque cobbled crap that locks us in even more.

Been watching proceedings on and off today- David Davies (not the usual one, but the one for Monmouth) was excellent. Illustrated the conflicting comments from fear mongers, and directly addressed the remainers hiding behind extending article fifty.

At least two of these outwardly said they wouldn't vote for any deal.

Says it all really. Should resign.

Anyway, big vote pending.

But it's easily solvable using "technology". Brexiteers keep telling us that, so what's the problem?

Can’t you read what I typed?

Yes, you are saying it's a problem because it's at "the discretion of the EU". Even though that's not true, how does that make any difference? If it's easily solvable using "technology" what is the issue?

The EU only need to point to one failure in the system. In fact they can simply pretend they are not satisfied. So no truck with that.

If the solution is as easy as the ERG claim, there wouldn't be any failures.

So ignoring your conspiracy bollocks, what's the alternative?
