paulhanley
You lot get up early. Youri -I will 50 next year. All I've done is what loads of people do as they progress through life. They realise socialism and all that lefty stuff never works. And they start thinking conservatively. I am a libertarian of course, BD. Unless they're being a c*nt in some way, shape or form - I simply can't understand why folk feel they can dictate or criticise how others choose to live. That's liberalism (small L) to me. We look at life the same way, unsurprisingly. But, my handle for it is "libertarian".
Youri McAnespie
Morning Paul. The right kind of 'socialism' (small s) - to me just means a kid growing up in Johnny Fold or Moss Side has the same opportunities as a kid from leafy Oxfordshire. My 'liberalism'/'socialism' is not a race to the bottom - folk can do well, just don't stamp on folk on your rise, nor piss down on them when you've risen. Intolerance and hatred - no place in our society, from any 'side'. Edited November 18, 2020 by Youri McAnespie

The very worst - obviously; nonces and other sex cases, murderers, terrorists and - including bad/drunk/drug/reckless drivers filtering down to people who don't pay their fair whack in tax nor others who rinse people's tax via bogus claiming. We probably do agree on most stuff, BD. Edited November 18, 2020 by Youri McAnespie
birch-chorley
I certainly do think our jobless benefits need looking at, Universal Credit is the same for all no matter what you have contributed, that’s madness really. Let’s say you have a salary of £60k, over 10 years you’ve paid close to £200k in Tax and NI. If your then made redundant like many have been recently your getting the same level of benefit as someone who has never put in . Across Europe they use other systems that give you more based on what you have put in, which is surely better. To be fair to this current government they have increased the benefit by £20 a week, which is a huge % increase, way beyond any increase seen for decades from various Labour and Conservative governments. They should rightly get credit for that. Will it be extended beyond Covid is another question entirely, at a cost of £9bn a year more it’s unlikely given the way public finances have gone. Puts the school meals into perspective, that cost is tiny in comparison but has made a much bigger impact in terms of public opinion. Youri McAnespie
Somebody who went to St. Shitholes and had two arseholes for parents - didn't have a prayer, now they're laid off from McDonalds. Give them peanuts. Yet some fucking resteraunteur who's gone tits up but paid in more should get more? Fuck mop - compassion fatigue is alive and well. I've worked in schools - it took a lot of self-control not to take a rounders bat to the 'parents' of the kids who came in taxis - or they didn't come at all... Nevertheless - they'll blame Covid for financial strife interminably. A bit like blaming Brown for selling our frankly paltry, piffling gold reserves. And... Everyone preaching doom and gloom. Self-fulfilling prophecy. Wash hands, wear mask, keep distance, get vaccinated. Be reet by England-Scotland. Keep it together. Though you may think you might ignite, you probably won't. There is no giant foot trying to squash you. Keep it together. Edited November 18, 2020 by Youri McAnespie
Site Supporter Winchester White Posted November 18, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 18, 2020 Ah, libertarianism. The idea that the free market will solve all our ills. As flawed as socialism so as usual, the best fit somewhere in the middle.

I have yet to speak to a poor libertarian though. Funny that. I still follow Dan Hannen on Twitter as he is an intelligent and interesting bloke. If anyone based their vote on the economic arguments of leaving then you have been hoodwinked. It is going to be a fight amongst the behemoths for a good while yet I fear. We will get deals of course but we were promised better than the EU. I hope they keep their promise.

I am however eternally hopeful because by Christ after this year we fucking need it!
Members bolty58
I see Barnier is paving the way for the deal Mounts always said we would get. "A deal is now possible if the political will is there". Yeah right. Fuck all to do with pressure applied by major mainland European businesses to make sure a deal happens. Pull the other one. Well done Mounts. Visionary. Edited November 22, 2020 by bolty58

Well done Mounts. Visionary. To be fair, even Mounts has never said what deal we would get, and even he would wait until we see it before saying if he thinks it's good or not. As you seem so pleased, and you've said "the deal" I presume you know you know the detail and can confirm it's a better deal than we had before? Hopefully a decent deal is signed, but I'd not get the bunting out just yet until we see the detail. Farage is already saying it'll be a shit deal and won't be what people voted for...... Escobarp
I’m sure we were told by our resident political expert that we had gone no deal as he predicted. Strange
Site Supporter Spider Posted November 22, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 22, 2020 We all know a deal is coming But it’s all about the details. Look at the Canada deal. Exactly the same as the eu deal. So no worse, no better - just erm, the same. It no good saying “we got a deal” then finding out it’s worse than what we had before, which many suspect it will be. Peace in our time. I have a fax in my pocket.

Peace in our time. I have a fax in my pocket. The fact is that any deal will be deemed a good deal as people will say it is our deal and paves the way for so much more. Equally others will say any deal is a bad deal, the irony is that will unite Remainers and Farage ! Maybe people could define elements of a good deal beforehand ? Will be difficult as there is so much involved. So what does a good deal look like in terms of the Irish border ? I ask because I have no idea what that will work. What are people hoping for ?
